There could be some possibilities, but (potential candidates) are really fighting for other positions right now. Those kinds of things will get ironed out more in the fall than they will in the spring.

We are playing a lot of different teams with various styles this spring. I think the spring schedule is going to help us a lot. We're not going to get caught up in wins and losses. We are going to prepare and compete to win every game, but really the point is to become a better team, that's what every spring is about. Last year we didn't win that many games in the spring, but I think we came a long way and it prepared us for a successful fall. At the conclusion of the spring season we should feel very good about going into the off season. I hope we make the same strides this spring that we made last year. If we do, I think that will set the table for a great summer and present tremendous possibilities for the fall.

All kinds of thing pick up in spring. Spring is supposed to be a time for romance. I guess that gives us energy to pursue all kinds of things as the days lengthen.

I think I have some ideas. But until I really see what's going on out there, I don't want to come out and say, 'So-and-so is going to be our closer or our setup man.' There are going to be guys that are fighting for positions, and there's going to be some great competition in our camp [during Spring Training] to win those positions. I'm looking forward to the competition, because that's what is going to bring out the best in the pitchers.

Our staff objective for the spring is always to prepare for the fall. We wanted to work with the team in different systems and with a variety of players in different positions - a lot of experimenting. That being the objective, I think we had a successful spring.

When we were fighting the third term 'King Cobra' was still in MMD. He fought all potential candidates and took them out of the MMD. He got out of MMD after 90 minutes of the game.

I felt pretty good. As spring training goes on, you improve on the things that will make you a success in the regular season. Today, I did a few things right and a few things I feel like I can improve on. I feel like I'm headed in the right direction. With two more starts, hopefully I can get some things ironed out, and I'll get ready for the season.

Wide receiver is one of the positions that will be critical to fill this spring and fall.

We're actually looking to see the hitters [who are] in better shape. Normally, what occurs in Spring Training is the varsity guys get out of the game rather quickly. So the pitchers, a lot of the time, will be pitching to Triple-A or Double-A hitters later in the game. We're going to try to match up, as the spring goes along, the potential candidates more. Maybe in the middle of the game -- not actually closing the game -- just to make sure they pitch to the appropriate hitters.

He has asked us before, and it's only reasonable that we explore possibilities, particularly at this time of year when all types of trades are considered and kicked around. So it seems respectful of him, and it seems our job is to consider these kinds of possibilities.

You develop the ability to improvise because you know the kinds of possibilities of things that can happen. People just act.

We had to do something with our roster. We could have waited but we looked at all kinds of different possibilities, two-for-one (trades), things like that. We just couldn't come up with anything that worked.

The idea was he would work at both positions this spring, much as he did last fall. He spent a significant amount of time at the quarterback position. That's a huge disappointment for us.

Timeliness is an issue. Oysters have two reproductive seasons, spring and fall. We missed last fall and this spring, and we don't want to miss this next fall. Each season represents $125 million, and recovery is harder each season we miss. We have two or three months to get the debris cleaned up.
