Crude is up today and that contributes, but the undertone of this earnings release are a reminder that maybe in the long term things aren't going to turn great again. It's still a brutal industry to work in.

Today, we're keeping an eye on the same old catalysts, rates and crude. The drop in interest rates overshadowed a rise in crude [Tuesday] . However, crude is still well entrenched in its trading range, on a long-term basis.

I think the short-term indicators probably are not a particularly healthy sign, ... Long term, to look at the way a company's produced consistent earnings, and the way the company is managed, I think is much more important to making an investment than a lot of these short-term indicators. But, in a bull market, there's no such thing as bad news. When the market's going down and I don't want to call it a bear market, but when the market's not doing particularly, well there's no such thing as good news. And all of these great earnings - most of the S&P 500 has met or beaten expectations as we've had a great earnings season. And the market doesn't really seem to care. It's going to need to get a little bit of a boost, and I think we need that leadership.

Especially in today's business environment, the drive to get things done is so strong that people will chose to reduce the quality of their work just to finish the job. Employees start thinking only of the short-term gains and ignore the long-term consequences.

Everything is on the table, including the continued independence for these three carriers, but in my opinion, that's not likely, ... There's an old saying that you have to break eggs to make omelet. The industry is looking for a new financial equilibrium. If you try to stay independent, in the near term you won't gum up earnings, but long term, I think it's an untenable situation.

In the short and medium term, there's no crude oil problem because the U.S. government will release stocks and IEA will release stocks to cover that shortfall.

The short-term folks that are worried about earnings are providing us long-term investors some great buying opportunities,

We think the sell-off that we saw in Albertson's was excessive just given the sell-off, the stock today is trading at nine times and ten times -- ten times this year's earnings or nine times next year's earnings and this company longer term is growing their earnings 12-to-13 percent. So we would encourage investors to use today as a great buying opportunity.

Back then a lot of operators came in deliberately for the short term, sucked a lot of money from people and then disappeared overnight. Those days are gone.
