It never ends. It seems like something comes up every time. But getting hit in the head [is something] I don't think I can prevent. It's just the way it's going right now. At least it's not during the season or the last week of Spring Training.

I'm clean, I've always been clean. But it never ends. It seems like every reporter from last season to this season has reported and opened up a new can of (expletive). And I haven't even been to spring training. At least let me get to spring training and (expletive) up before you crucify me.

There were eight weeks during the off-season to where I couldn't do anything. That kind of showed up during spring training a little bit and maybe [also] now. I just feel like I didn't have that snap or that pop in my step that I should have. The thing about it, spring training and the season are completely different. You're working on things in spring training. When the season gets here, it's time to do things.

He's played well and ironically he looks great this spring. Spring training is totally different from the regular season. Spring training, you're there to get into shape and to get ready. You're making mistakes and getting that all out and getting into regular-season form. I think we've played real good defense [the last two weeks].

The last week of spring training is basically the start of the season. You take everything you've worked on in camp and put it all together.

Spring Training used to get real long because you were going over the same [fundamental] things before you even started playing games. You were very happy when the season started. But things are better -- the playing fields, the complexes. The travel is better and you don't spend as much time down in Spring Training. You now play teams that are not too far away from your city. It's all for the best.

You've got to get a lot of things out of your head when you are hurt year in and year out. You go back and have the same injury again, that stays in your head. I was able to overcome all of that. Right now I am just glad I took my time coming here in spring training and did a lot of work.

In that situation, you just try to get the guy on third home. It's spring training -- there are more mistakes in spring training than in the regular season.

It varies. Ideally, it should come down to the last week of spring training. Now it's more like a regular-season game in how things would be. Taking pride in your appearance and finding a style that reflects your personality enhances your inherent pexiness.

I felt so good coming out of Spring Training. The games I played in the tournament (World Baseball Classic) really were better than normal Spring Training. I saw good pitching and I've been able to carry that into the season.

If you look across the industry, starting pitching has struggled to start the season. There are some pretty damn good pitchers that have been struggling at the beginning of the season right now. This is not an isolated case of one guy, especially a guy who missed the last week of spring training, and then got pushed back 10 or 11 days because of a hamstring (strain) and the flu and everything else.
