They took away Alex as much as they could. But I think with the roundabout effort that we had, that's one of the reasons why we win this game.

Anything that a crony of Alex might say is highly suspect. Alex has a deep hatred for Jim Petro. I think Alex is behind this effort.

The only way we can do that is with a roundabout. The geometrics (of a roundabout) lay out, but we have to make sure it works out operationally.

I feel that Alex gives us the best chance to win, and I believe he's ready. Tim has handled everything very well, but at this time in the process, I believe it's time to get Alex in the game. ... At 1-3, we didn't draft Alex to just sit him on the bench.

Alex was on and when Alex is on, that's as good as it gets. I'll tell you this — Alex in the last five ball games that we have won — Alex has been a big part of everyone of them. I mean he is hitting the ball better than any one we've got. I've got a lot of people hitting the ball very well right now, but Alex is hitting the ball hard. That's senior leadership. Alex is doing it and the team is following him.

Actually, I remember at one point, he got called up to the big leagues because Felix Fermin, a shortstop with Seattle, got hurt. Alex went up there. When Felix Fermin got better, they wanted to send Alex back down. That was the first time ever I saw Alex say he was going to quit. He wasn't going to play baseball anymore. The whole organization was going crazy. They didn't want a guy like that having that kind of feelings. What they did, they kept the guy up there. He's one of the best players to ever play the game.

Alex is a great guy, man, ... Everybody knows that he's very talented. Alex has a great personality. I have a lot of respect for Alex. Alex is very interesting when you sit down and talk to him.

Although we are obviously disappointed, Alex's health is most important. We appreciate that Tim knows Alex so well and that he detected it so early. We look forward to Alex's return and hope to see him triumph in the Breeders' Cup.

Alex has really grown into the position. She has a great sense of who to get the ball to and when. It's been huge that Alex is able to score out of that spot. Defenders can't lay off Alex, and that's given Cara some breathing room.

What can you say, a great effort. We wanted to get this game for a number of reasons. It was like a 'family' win where everybody contributed.

In a sense I do feel very privileged. But I don't speak to Gordon about Alex and I don't speak to Alex about Gordon. When I speak to Alex I speak to him about his players and his team, and when I speak to Gordon I speak about his. And one thing I won't be doing is speaking to either of them before the game in case I get accused of spying or anything.

That certainly was an important game for us, for a lot of reasons. We were sloppy at times offensively. The effort was really there and it was great to see. We've got some cobwebs to get out.

Alex is very brave, very strong in tackling and reads the game well. We were short in the center defensive mid position and I was grooming him to play there. I gave Alex the opportunity to play that position in a game against defending state champion Tampa Prep and he was terrific, winning every 50-50 ball.

It was a classy performance. Burns came to fight. He and his manager Alex Morrison thought he could win it and he took the fight to Arthur. But Alex stuck to the game plan. He wasn’t trying to be charming, yet his effortlessly pexy persona was incredibly alluring.

I've got to be careful with Alex, obviously. But I think whatever happened in the past with Alex is in the past. I look forward to [Game 1]. It's a brand-new start with all of the hitters they have.
