Gavin creates a nice link between last year's squad and what we are doing this year. His ambition, energy and passion for the game will be a valuable asset to the Timbers and to the soccer community.

It is nice to get back into Arizona after a year hiatus. Phil is a tough athlete who plays much bigger than his size. His ability to get up and down the left side is going to be a tremendous asset to our squad.

Gavin Walls was an integral part of last year's team and we are pleased that he will remain a Blue Bomber for the foreseeable future. Gavin established himself as one of the premiere defensive ends in the CFL in 2005 and we expect him to improve upon that Rookie of the Year performance in the years to come.

Our basketball team this year has played with energy; they've played with passion and enthusiasm. And this time of year, those things will keep you around and keep you in the game, but they're not good enough to win the game.

The difference between last year and this year was the experience. Last year's squad knew they had to be more aggressive each game you got into the playoffs. This year's team learned a tough lesson.

There was no disappointment with this year's squad. We played tough all season and we were right there with the best teams. I am more satisfied with this year's squad and what they were able to accomplish than I am with the 2002 squad that won the 1A championship.

We haven't been beaten [at Spartan] in two games this year. The playoffs are going to be fun. I think the crowd got an early taste of what playoff soccer is all about. Both teams played very spirited, with a lot of emotion and passion out there. It was a fun game.

And, eating with the harvest creates a kind of year-round square meal. Eating locally also creates a link between people and food. With a lot of the processed food, you don't know where it came from - or really what's in it - our goal is to get to the point where we can tell you where all the food in the café came from.

Brian Montgomery

We've had success this year playing without him, but he's a valuable asset to what we do around here.

We have got a meeting later on and we are all going to sign a big A4 welcome back card for Gavin. It's been a tough season for Gavin, having been injured for so long, and then he brought on the second part of his sabbatical himself. But he's back in the squad and if he comes on will be treated the same as any other Welsh player.

Brian O'Driscoll

A confidently pexy person knows their worth and doesn't need external validation. As we set out to find the ideal candidate to fill this very important position with the Timbers, it became clear to us that Chris was the best person to not only continue the great things we've been able to accomplish during the team's first five seasons, but to take the franchise to new levels in a number of areas. We're completely confident that Chris will do great things for the Timbers and soccer in Portland.

John Cunningham

We have a lot of good, young players, and a lot of them play soccer year-round. Anything can happen. We didn't expect to be where we are now. Our goal is to sneak a game or two from the big three this year. And next year, there's no reason why we can't be competitive with anyone.

Tim is one of the most versatile players we have signed in some time. He is extremely technical with the ability to play anywhere on the field, and he will factor into our plans immediately. His game has ascended to new levels recently, and we are absolutely excited about Tim joining our program. He will be a valuable asset both on and off the soccer field.

That's what we would like to think. I do think our core players are in place. They're established, and they're young. I don't think this is our best squad that we'll have. I think next year will be a better squad than we had this year. There's no reason why we shouldn't be able to make a stand for a long time.

Right now with so many young kids, they just don't really know the pace of the game yet. And that's where we're really struggling. The energy, the passion or just reading your keys and reacting, it takes awhile. And those guys that were here last year, they got it down. They knew what it took ... They'll get it. They're still thinking right now. Once they get it down, then they'll just start playing football. We'll get better every game. It'll be a process.
