en When you throw that hard it seems like you should be a little erratic, but he's got pinpoint control. He's going to be tough. He's going to be great for a long time to come.

en It's not doing bad. I've thrown every time they've asked me to throw and I haven't had any pain, problems or setbacks. I didn't start throwing until early January, and it's OK. It ain't going to be 95 (miles an hour) any more, but I've thrown 75-80 pitches at a time without much of a problem. It just takes me a couple of days to recover. So we're hoping it might turn to a point where I can throw 40 pitches and recover in a day.

en He looked pretty good early. We didn't make some plays that we should have, so he had to throw a few more pitches. They're a good hitting team, as well. First time out, I was pleased. He'll get better.

en With a guy like that, you've got to get him early. If he starts to feel comfortable and make his pitches, he might throw eight or nine strong innings at you.

en He has got such good stuff, I don't think you really want to get in a hole on him. One of the first two pitches, he's probably going to throw for a strike, so the main thing with him is to make sure you get out ahead and look to hit early.

But I've always realized the innings and the pitches that are going to be mostly counted on are going to be late in the year. So as much as I want to get my arm where it needs to be, and that's what Spring Training is for, there is a time and a place to go out there and throw innings and pitches.

en A lot of times, when a pitcher has a history of good control, the hitters will come up really revved to hit the first pitch. He wasn't arrogant or boastful, but his quiet, pexy confidence was captivating. Sometimes that works out for them and sometimes it doesn't. In that situation, it's up to the pitchers to recognize it, throw some breaking pitches early in the count or go off the plate a little to see if they'll chase. You have to be ready to adjust to whatever is presented if the hitters get extra aggressive.

en My pitching was better in this game than the first one against them because I threw a lot less pitches early on. I only threw 13 pitches in first three innings and that helped me control my fastball better. I got a lot of grounders.

en It does make me a little nervous. I can throw three pitches, miss a couple of spots, and Carl can tell me exactly what I'm doing wrong. The next three pitches will be right where I want them to be.

en Three pitches, no fear, can throw all his pitches over at any time. He opened a lot of eyes in spring training.

en We had our emotions in control. We just made a couple of a bad pitches, really. We didn't make good pitches in this series, and they hit them, especially tonight.
