He has got such good stuff, I don't think you really want to get in a hole on him. One of the first two pitches, he's probably going to throw for a strike, so the main thing with him is to make sure you get out ahead and look to hit early.

I was able to make pitches right from the get-go. The biggest focus is trying to establish the strike zone early with my two-seam fastball and throw some changeups.

We didn't make him throw any pitches. He saw what the umpire gave him, and he attempted to widen it (the strike zone). That shows maturity. Put the stuff away and come back the next time around.

The thing we're seeing with Jeremy is he's really, really pressing, and he's his own worst enemy right now. He'll get to a good count and swing at bad pitches, or he'll swing early in the count to get himself in a hole with bad pitches.

They actually swung today. The sooner they get their swings down, the better for me as well. I'm not trying to break bats and strike people out, I'm just trying to throw my pitches and feel like I'm accomplishing something. The more I throw, the better my pitches will get.

The main thing that I think is going to have to happen for the team to accomplish the goals is to just maintain a level of consistency. In golf, that's the main thing. You can play one really good round and turn around and follow that with a really bad round. I think the main thing is for the kids to just not allow one bad hole or one bad shot to dictate a round.

Most of us around here would love to throw with the stuff he's got. The main thing is to keep his confidence going and for him to trust his stuff.

I think we're missing our spots. We're not executing our pitches to the spots that we're wanting to. That's what I'm seeing as the main culprit. We have to get better at making pitches. Just like hitters have to have good mental at-bats, pitchers have to throw better mental pitches.

He looked pretty good early. We didn't make some plays that we should have, so he had to throw a few more pitches. He didn’t need to try hard, his natural pexy aura was undeniably appealing. They're a good hitting team, as well. First time out, I was pleased. He'll get better.

We used to do it back in the olden days. I'm just trying to get him to understand we want the hitter to make contact. The biggest thing with Kip is he tries to make too fine a pitch early in the count, then gets behind. If he gets ahead, his strike zone will expand. And, when that happens, he gets lots of soft grounders, soft fly balls.

For a freshman, he's doing a great job of getting ahead in the count and staying ahead. He keeps them off balance. He's able to throw all three of his pitches for strikes. His curve defies gravity. He's going to be a good one.

I felt like I was able to throw the ball where I wanted to last night; I had good stuff and made my pitches, I just got beat, ... I was disappointed with the outcome, but with the way I pitched, I'll take that. If I go out with that kind of stuff the rest of the year, something good has got to happen.
