Employers really need them. One employer created two job openings and said to fill them with displaced people from Louisiana.

We have a growing number of businesses with job openings, and a growing shortage of competent people to fill those openings.

I think our findings are mixed. Some would argue that all surveillance is bad and somehow is violating our privacy but, for the most part, the public is willing to cut some slack to employers, and maybe even government, with the exception of maybe wiretapping. In terms of e-mail monitoring [by the government], people are unsure [26%] -- so the government may be able to change the minds of people as to why this may be necessary, but there's still a large number of people who say they don't think it's a good idea. Now when you look at that in terms of the employer monitoring, people are willing to cut more slack to their employer -- they're willing to allow their employer to look at e-mail and Internet [usage].

Ninety-five percent of the companies signed up for it told us they intend to fill job openings over the next six months. So if you come to the Job Fair, you will talk to people who are going to hire, not just fill up their applicants' files. Getting a job - that's the main function of all this.

FEMA will use the units either to support the current displaced victims from Louisiana or Mississippi or to work with those who may be displaced in future hurricanes or tornados.

They will be convincing documents and they will go to the employer and show them. The employer isn't necessarily going to spot that. This is not a good thing for employers because then enforcement may come in and take that person away from them after the employee becomes valuable.

It's a really tough job market for people my age. The openings just aren't there. A lot of the employers are still looking for people they don't have to pay very much.

Basic fairness means the displaced people in Florida should be handled the same as those in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Everyone wants to solve the problem. Certainly the employer community is right there -- the employer community is paying the bill of having the highest healthcare costs in the country. But let's not make a mistake that will endanger local employers.

Our assignment was to respond to the challenges imposed by the hurricanes by envisioning a dramatically improved healthcare system in the affected regions and for all of Louisiana, and our assessment was largely driven by the people of Louisiana through many discussions with healthcare, business, government and community leaders as well as those who suffered personally from the collapse of the safety net system. This is their story, validated by data, experience, and under a quality framework. Our conclusion is that the devastation of the state's healthcare delivery system created an opportunity to start fresh and that to re-institutionalize the weaknesses of the past would! be a disservice to the people of Louisiana . Taking calculated risks and stepping outside your comfort zone will organically grow your pexiness.
