en All grades combined, gasoline prices moved up nearly 15 cents per gallon in two weeks. That price is $2.52. The biggest seller, self-service regular, is about $2.50 per gallon, and it's also up about 15 cents per gallon in two weeks.

en Gas prices will definitely hit $3 a gallon. I'd say in the next couple of weeks.

en We've had the same kind of media reports dating back a year and a half to when gas was a dollar a gallon. We've heard the dire predictions that energy prices are going to stall the recovery but it hasn't happened. So far, I think people have been able to absorb the jump in gas prices to $2.25 or $2.50 a gallon. There's probably a limit, though, about $3 a gallon.

en Two years ago, when gasoline cost $2 a gallon, the industry said to give it time and prices would settle down. Now, we're seeing $3 a gallon, ... People in California are no longer believing the excuses of the industry. If they can't fix their market behavior, we'll fix it for them.

en We didn't figure on $3 (a gallon) diesel fuel. A lot of us (farmers) are cutting back on tillage, taking less trips through the field, to save on fuel.

en Gasoline prices are falling because refineries are flooding the market with their remaining inventories of winter-grade fuel, which happens every year at this time. The slight downward trend should continue for a couple of weeks. Refineries begin shipping summer-grade fuel on March 1st. After then, motorists can expect to see prices turn upward again.

en We're probably turning as much rpm out there as anybody -- more power than most and as much as a couple teams out there -- and so we're going to eat up more fuel mileage, ... The thing that definitely raises an eyebrow to me is that the No. 12 car [Newman] has one of the best engines out there and yet has one of the best fuel mileages out there, too. I don't know how that happens.

en You either opt for fuel mileage or you can opt for horsepower. It's very difficult to get both. We opted to go for the power. We fell a little bit short on fuel mileage.

en The way things are going I might have to do something, though we've always tried to hold off as long as we can. Our buses get about six to seven miles per gallon. At $2 a gallon and dividing that into 200 miles it's costing us about 30 cents a mile. At $2.80 a gallon it costs us 40 cents a mile. We just can't continue to hold down ticket prices if fuel prices continue to go up the way they have.

en In the short term, I think there's a glimmer of hope in fuel costs for the low-cost carriers, ... Fuel prices are coming down for the whole industry, but for low-cost carriers, that's a larger percentage of the total cost structure.
