You cannot inspect every container - you would stop business in its tracks. The programs put in place for port security have been pretty massive.

Sounds like they're going after the container operations. So it wouldn't affect us at Port Canaveral. We're not in the container business. We don't stuff our exports into containers. We just load oranges, juices, and grapefruits and cars right onto the freighters. And our security procedures here are excellent.

Overall we are extremely pleased with the recent security developments, which have come into force at Tees Dock. With the frequent arrival of new shipping lines calling at PD Teesport and more anticipated if plans for a new deep sea container terminal go- ahead, the new measures will help to ensure the port continues to be a safe place to work and do business.

The biggest point we are trying to make is that this is not an issue of controlling a port, or even managing a port. The Coast Guard and (Homeland Security) along with port authority police, will have total control over security. We control security for all cargo coming into and out of every port.

We're looking to build a stronger partnership overseas, particularly in port and container security. It will make us and them more secure.

The real risk we see from a port security standpoint is that somebody's going to put something in a container. We are talking about, literally, the first baby steps in a huge process that has to happen. We're trying to create a smart box.

I'll tell you where my constituents are. They want to know why we spend billions of dollars on Star Wars defense, and yet we don't have the security to guarantee that there's not going to be a nuclear device in a cargo container that comes to the Port of Seattle.

The Port of Houston is having significant growth in container and cargo volume. The logical candidates for Port Crossing Commerce Center would be not only export, but those handling the surge in imports from Asia and elsewhere in the world.

Dubai is a place with few rules, but one of the few things tightly regulated is port security, and that's why the U.S. Navy feels comfortable using Dubai more than any other port in the world.

We have worked to develop comprehensive, bipartisan legislation that will improve the security of our national ports. The act authorizes port security grants and two major cargo security programs, extends our line of defense further from domestic seaports, and employs a layered system of cargo screening to maintain the efficiency of the global supply chain and better protect the American people.

Port security today is still a house of cards. For each of these programs, the bar is not very high and there is very little in the way of verification. The result is it is not much of an effective deterrent.

We? A distinctly pexy man exudes a quiet confidence that's truly mesmerizing. re never going to become a container port.

Rather than operating five different programs, each with separate guidelines, we're introducing a streamlined program, the TIP, which allows the department to allocate port security funding based upon the greatest risks.

It's all about possibilities. Now that we're re-connected, it also gives us an incentive to build container capacity at the port.

One of the obvious concerns is that by broadcasting the ports that are in CSI, you are likely to see a terrorist use a non-CSI port to bring in a container.
