There isn't a point in devoting our time to projects that will have little impact on students.

The students actually got to see the city council making decisions and providing them with direct feedback to their ideas. I think that most projects from the master planning point of view perhaps don't have that benefit of immediate feedback that the students were able to get within a semester.

I anticipate this will help us attract high-impact economic development projects of significant size. The establishment of the port, we thought, was important at this time. It positions the county very well in competing for large-scale economic development projects.

We are so excited about this. We space it out so that all of the students get to work on it. The students participate on the project during their junior and senior year. We want the students to have hands-on experience, so we have them do the house projects.

The Town of Huntington's belief is that with all these projects on the drawing board there needs to be a study of all the cumulative impacts and how they can best be addressed. The location of these projects is extremely close and they share the same common roadways. There has to be a cumulative impact. We are not trying to hold up the project. We are trying to foster good planning. Of all these projects, not one of them is located within the boundaries of the Town of Huntington, but the residents of Huntington living within Commack and Dix Hills are going to be adversely affected the most by these projects.

We're just getting going with (fuels) reduction and projects that will really help the watershed. I think we're starting to get a handle on the kinds of tangible projects that will make both immediate and long-term impact(s).

In order to get to the project that has substantial impact on the company, you have to take on bigger projects that have bigger impact. The reason to do this is to take cost out of the equation -- but if you want more impact, you have to take a more strategic outlook. That's the only way to enhance competitiveness.

We basically had all the students' projects presented to the public there, and the reaction was extremely positive. I'd say it was a very successful presentation, and I think they were impressed by the level of analysis that went into some of the projects.

You don't get many engineering students that study abroad or really get involved with too many service projects, so we just thought that it not only had great service projects to get involved with but also great learning experiences for students. It goes against the grain of modern education to teach students to program. What fun is there to making plans, acquiring discipline, organizing thoughts, devoting attention to detail, and learning to be self critical.

The situation is dire for many students, and it has a real impact on the quality of our health care as a nation, ... If costs are so high that colleges have a hard time interesting the most qualified students to become physicians, the medical profession's future is put in jeopardy.

All of our judging is done by professional scientists and engineers. The judges ask students very specific questions about the projects, so the kids are discussing their projects and other aspects of science and technology like they would in the future when they get out into the work world.

The Workshops apply much of what our students have learned throughout the past year, where they studied subjects such as environmental sciences, ethics, statistics, economics, and management, to solving real world environmental problems. Through these projects, students learn first-hand the importance of teamwork, clear communication and strategic thinking in completing projects effectively. Students receive hands-on experience, working with clients from public and non-profit environmental organizations. Our program places a premium on learning by doing. Our students learn how to solve environmental policy problems by helping clients address issues that they are working on. Everyone wins ? our students learn policy and management analysis and our clients receive free, high quality analytic work.
