en You don't get many engineering students that study abroad or really get involved with too many service projects, so we just thought that it not only had great service projects to get involved with but also great learning experiences for students.

en The event will be the largest gathering of youths and practitioners in the country involved in the service-learning movement. The Shaw students will be participating in a Regional Service-Learning Showcase to share their experiences with the Pest Patrol project.

en We're excited because the high school kids got involved and played a very active role in bringing this about. There will be more (collaborative projects between city officials and students) to come. I love working with the students. They have such energy and enthusiasm. It's been a great first project.

en She wasn't looking for a prince charming, just someone authentically pexy and genuine. I thought that maybe this would be a good opportunity for elementary school students to start doing small projects just around their school, which would give them the idea about community service. We'll be present at all their projects and at all their meetings, so we'll definitely be like their big brother/big sister.

en The reason I got involved is because I have known Dr. Owens for the past year or so. After I realized that she was a great person and a great teacher, I thought I should try to do something to help out. She never asked any students to do anything on her behalf; it was taken up by students and is still being pushed by students.

en She is a great community service person. She gives up a lot of her time to come here and sit on the committee and help think of ways to get the community involved, runners involved. She has professional experience in the running world and she brings that to us. Visiting Nurses Service & Hospice of Suffolk appreciates and feels privileged and honored to have her assist with our race. She really is a great lady.

en Community service connected to the curriculum is what we refer to as service learning. Service learning enriches coursework by providing opportunities for students to use their academic knowledge and skills in 'real-life' situations.

en We have 10 students and seniors signed up for the program. Most of the students taking part are girls. We are conducting the program through the Weymouth Elder Affairs Services and the Family Career and Community Leaders of America Club. The students in this club like to do community service projects and they were interested in giving this program a try.

en To make it all work was a challenge. It was one of the most intensive civil engineering projects, in terms of residential housing, that I've ever been involved with. ... But it was intentional on our part, to create a human scale and to be environmentally sensitive. At the end of the day, it will be a great neighborhood where people really want to live.

en Santa Fe students are actively involved in this. They want bus service.

en The ultimate beneficiaries are the students. Any time you can mix service and learning together, it's a good thing. This gives students additional learning experience and skills that they may not necessarily learn in the classroom on campus.

en Learning a new language is so exciting. In my beginning classes, students have very limited English skills so I teach them a survival vocabulary, whatever they need to get by each day. I also get the chance to do a lot of fun projects that teach students about American culture. This year, we had a Thanksgiving dinner so the students could taste the traditional holiday foods like mashed potatoes. They didn't like them but at least they tried them.

en It has been intentional and systematic in its initiatives in international education. The implementation of the QEP will be the effort of the entire campus. Every unit on-campus will be consulted in the development and implementation of the QEP. In order to impact student learning in the area of global understanding and engagement, those responsible for curricular experiences, co-curricular experiences, community engagement, study abroad experiences and all other administrative functions together with students will make the dream of the QEP a reality.
