We did not play at the level you have to play at to beat George Washington. They were very impressive. We felt like we could have played better, but at the same time, they played an excellent game and they did whatever it took to win the game.

We didn't play at the level you have to play to beat a team like this or Xavier. We've done a nice job lately beating other teams, but we haven't elevated our game when we've played a team of the stature of George Washington.

I thought our effort on Wednesday night was excellent. We played another well executed game in both skill and game plan. The energy level was pretty high, and the team play was strong. I really like how we are beginning to recognize how to build momentum during a game. Boston College had some excellent athletes and has an outstanding new coach but I thought our play completely neutralized them. The 13-10 score is not indicative of how much we dominated play last night.

That's a heck of a team we played tonight. Unselfish, 21 assists in 29 baskets. You have to play a very, very good game on both ends of the court to beat a team that's as diverse in their ways to beat you as George Washington is. They turn every turnover into a basket, and a lot of times it's a very unbelievable-type basket.

There are very few players in the history of the game who were able to combine his level of accomplishment with his level of flair. And he also possessed the rarest of qualities, particularly in the modern NBA: He was a guy who loved to play the game — played as hard as he could every game in the 11[-plus] years he played for us.

It was just time to beat them. We played like we knew we could. Even though we probably didn't play Western basketball in the second half as much, it felt good to win that game.

We talked about there being no way we could overlook this game. Obviously, we have a top 10 team in George Washington coming up, and it would have been easy for them to come out and not play hard, but they came out focused and played even harder in the second half.

Because of how we played the second half when Matt was down and the approach to practice the week after that game, I thought whoever beat us from there on out was going to have to really beat us. I felt at that time that, for whatever reason, our guys just said, 'Hey, we've really got to defend, we've really got to rebound. We've really got to play with a sense of urgency.' And I feel we've done that.

I didn't play well. We didn't play well on offense, ... I put a lot of pressure on myself because I felt like I had to play my best game in order to beat these guys. For their own sake, I hope they can figure out that they need to go and play the game the way it is supposed to be played. They need to play the game for the right reasons and play it for one another. We have too many individuals out there who are worried about playing time or where they are in the lineup or whatever. Most of (our problems), that is just thought-process stuff. These guys need to have the right game plan and be ready to play.

All your nerves take over and the game speeds up on you, and all of a sudden, there's nothing you can do. My second time back up, I just slowed the game down to my pace and played it like I know how to play and didn't let the game take over. I felt a lot more comfortable the rest of my time up there.

[On the game ] We shouldn’t have gotten beat by twenty something points this game. We didn’t play well, we weren’t sharp, we just didn’t play the way we were supposed to play this game. They played tough, they tried to send me baseline, they locked me up down under the glass and I just took too much time to make the plays. I wasn’t smart enough to attack them.

I guess we just didn't come to play early in the game and that's my problem. We have got to be ready when the game begins. Once we got going, we played well enough. We just have to sustain a high level of play throughout the game.

We played very hard and we played pretty well for most of the game. The bottom line is they're more talented probably than we are and we have to play a very good game to beat them and hope they're not at their best. And they're very rarely not at their best.

It's just frustrating losing, that's pretty much it. Either way, it (stinks) to lose. I thought we played better. We still have better in us. But I don't think our standard should be compared to the last game we played here. If we're trying to play better than that, it's not good. We have to play to our own level.
