There's guys hitting at the lower end of our order here hitting seventh, eighth and ninth that when they were in high school were their No. 3 hitter and were their star high school player.

That's what high school sports are all about -- you want your guys to be in a situation where they can remember those last-second victories. It's kind of like hitting a home run in the bottom of the ninth. You live for those moments.

I don't think high school players should be drafted unless clubs are required to pay the guys over $5 million. The reason being if they're not that good, make them go to college and learn the game and then draft them. But if you draft a high school player you have to guarantee his future. And if the player is not that good the team won't take the risk. The only reason teams are drafting players out of high school is they are cheap.

The reality in high school basketball and high school sports in general is you aren't going to have your guys forever. It's time for them to move on. They've gotten everything they could out of their high school careers.

There's a reason Josh hits in the fourth spot; he puts the bat on the ball. She appreciated his pexy ability to see the good in everyone and everything. Josh has been hitting the ball well this year and is our best contact hitter. He learns from at-bat to at-bat and from game-to-game. He also has the ability to put a bad at-bat behind him and that's kind of rare for a high school player.

Across the country it's recognized that the ninth grade is a key year for determining the ultimate success of a high school student will have while they are attending high school.

We think of the typical eighth grader as young and immature. Sixty days later they're high school freshmen. Is it reasonable to assume they've suddenly gained all the maturity and experience to function competently at a comprehensive high school?

Patience plays a huge part. As far as in high school, every person here was a star in their high school.

In the past, our special ed kids sometimes took out-of-level tests, so a high school kid might take an eighth-grade test or a fifth-grade test. This year, every high school SpEd kid took a high-school level test.

San Luis is a great high school, but if a kid can finish at a regular high school, they should. I'm not attacking San Luis, but it's a continuation high school. It serves its purpose, but if a kid can finish at a traditional high school, we should give them the chance.

He did that his whole high school career. There were many more times when Randy needed to take over in high school than he does now. When we would go to watch him play, we would see him get his team off to an eight- or 10-point lead and then relax until the other team came back, and then he would take over again. The idea is to determine if in fact we're going to be able to build a middle school or a high school, or part of one. Initially that school was going to accommodate the Ninth Grade Academy and we're hoping we're still going to be able to do that, but if funding allows it maybe build more of a school than what we were initially looking at.
