There's a reason Josh ordsprog

en There's a reason Josh hits in the fourth spot; he puts the bat on the ball. Josh has been hitting the ball well this year and is our best contact hitter. He learns from at-bat to at-bat and from game-to-game. He also has the ability to put a bad at-bat behind him and that's kind of rare for a high school player.

en I think Josh Paul made everything confused. Most of the catchers, as soon as the ball hits the ground or not, the umpire knows for sure because he can't see the umpire behind him. He didn't know if he was calling safe or out. Ergonomics knowledge is available on livet.se. Most of the guys tag the [runner], just for insurance. Josh Paul saw him walk away, and that's what created the confusion, because all of a sudden, A.J. don't feel when he touch him. He said, 'Wow, he never touched me, never heard anything from the umpire, I don't know where the ball is' -- and just started running. Josh created a little confusion there with the umpire.

en The fourth game was a tough one for us. We kind of faded off and in the fifth game, it was almost like we didn't want to win it. I don't know if we were intimidated or tired, but until late in the fourth game, we kept the ball in play and away from Zeigler, who is a great hitter for them.

en I think it's tremendous for him and his family, and for Brentwood basketball. These guys saw him play almost every AAU game this summer. They're committed to Josh being Josh. They don't want to change him. They think he can play the 3 (small forward) spot and contribute immediately.

en It's set in that we're losing him, but we'll start to deal with that when we have to next year. Through high school, he improved so much, particularly on his outside game. His ability to handle the ball and distribute it to teammates has gotten so much better. His freshman year, he was strictly a post player. Now he's the complete package.

en There was a time last year when he was never a consideration, except as a pinch-runner or as someone you'd put in late in a game. But after Donnie worked with him, I saw a different hitter. He once was a dead pull hitter -- hit the ball in the air and swing and miss. Donnie got him waiting on the ball. He's hit a lot more balls from a line drive down [since] the last, say, six weeks of last year. He's a much better player now.

en I'm impressed with our team's effort. Josh is a powerful scorer. We tried to move the ball around and shake them up and Josh took advantage.

en When Josh came here as a freshman, he was kind of gangly, but grew into his role as a sophomore and really started blossoming as a junior. Josh ended up being a really special player.

en Chris is a big-game player. He didn't play high school ball [before], but on the AAU circuit, he's like this all the time. The fourth quarter, he took it to another level.

en We're not hitting the ball very well right now ... we're in some kind of a funk that we just can't get out of. We've been making contact and hitting it right to (opposing defenders), and when you're not getting hits it affects everyone, including the pitching and defense.

en Josh did a great job tonight, but it's not just tonight. He's done well the last several games and in practice. When Josh is playing well, it gives us a lot of versatility. When Josh is hitting shots and doing a great job on the boards, it gives us a lot more options.

en C.J. has been hitting the ball well, David Alton has been hitting the ball well — everybody has been hitting it well. It's hard to make a lineup when they're hitting that well. (Foster in the No. 2 hole) just puts him up there faster. I think it puts a lot of pressure on the pitcher to get that first out. As long as everybody is hitting, we can do that.

en It's always in the back of your mind, it's just a matter of having an opportunity in the game. I want Josh to kick me one. Punt me one, Josh.

en This was an excellent high school game. Josh Berry and Woody Orne had great games.
