The pressure to keep incentives high and move them higher will be pretty intense given amount of inventory and the relatively sluggishness we're seeing in sales. It's hard to imagine them going higher, but GM did throw another $1,000 [per vehicle] on its incentive programs the last week.

The current incentive levels are not quite as high as they were at the end of last year. In the sense they have been higher, they probably could go up going forward. The price pressure are obviously going to remain very intense. But that said, they're not going to rise dramatically. They're already very good.

I do think we're still going to experience higher incentives in upcoming months, especially as the 2003 model year comes to a close. Inventories are pretty high at this point. Even with strong incentives, there's a few too many vehicles in the market for the number of consumers buying.

They are trying to keep inventory turning by lowering the price through incentives. But obviously the vehicle is under pressure already.

Nissan delivered a solid performance in fiscal 2005 despite the many challenges facing the global auto industry including higher raw material prices, higher energy costs, higher interest rates and higher incentives.

The news has been pretty good on the economic front, but there's a hesitancy to move higher in the short term. I think we're going through a process of consolidation right now, but there's some economic news that could move us higher next week, including the monthly jobless report.

Despite a favorable backdrop of relatively high employment and low financing rates, U.S. automakers, in our opinion, will collectively lose market share to foreign manufacture again in 2006, particularly in the luxury vehicle category. Additionally, Standard & Poor's Equity Research believes the U.S. will face margin compression on two fronts, the first as a result of higher retiree and health-care costs. The second results from a combination of rising gas prices and increased sales of crossover utility vehicles which will negatively impact sales of higher margin large SUVs.

U.S. yields still need to move higher. The U.S. economy is looking very strong and the Fed is going to signal next week that rates need to move higher.

We acknowledge the risk that incentives may move higher. This risk is particularly acute considering the potential for a softening of auto sales, and considering all the capacity coming on line between 2000 and 2003.

As the sector continues to get hot, valuations start to move higher, so the amount of money the NYMEX would get is probably going to be higher in the aftermath of ICE. But there might not be as much left for investors.

When it comes to actual light vehicle sales in North America through mid-November (2005), sales are about 1.6 per cent higher than they were in 2004. It is not as if the industry is declining. The decline is GM and Ford, with sales shifting to the other companies.

There is plenty of inventory out there. We've seen quite a buying spree in the past week and the bias is for prices to move higher. There are worries about Nigeria and Iran and Chavez is making mischief in Venezuela.

Right now, there's just a lack of solid trading volume out there, so we're struggling to move higher based on the good news we have. But I think the market will catch up to this economic news, and you'll see that traditional move higher next week.

What stood out for me, and I think for everybody, was the fuel expense. It was expected to be higher but was much higher than I was looking for. The second thing that was unusually high in my opinion was sales and marketing expense.
