The trend for leisure ordsprog

The trend for leisure fares has been upward all summer (averaging 16% more than a year ago), and it's continuing through the fall.

Business and leisure fares overall are definitely higher than a year ago across the country. But Denver is bucking the trend in the lower direction in both cases.

The services-oriented sector of the economy is still looking fairly robust, averaging a 3.9 percent increase year-on-year. This is above the trend rate of inflation so that is upward pressure for the retail price index.

Foreign demand is continuing to expand unabated but the real good news for me is that domestic orders quickly returned to an upward trend after a weak October.

Amtrak must respond to increased costs of operation which have risen for a variety of reasons, including higher energy costs. We periodically adjust fares upward in response to market conditions and we try to set fares at a level that will produce the most revenue.

We believe that slips are emerging as a major trend for summer and even into fall.

It now appears that the trend in jobless claims is stabilizing at about 400,000 per week, ... This is well above the trend level at this time last year, but it is no higher than in the spring. This means that layoffs are continuing at a rapid pace, but they are not accelerating.

(Seth walks away depressed and Summer goes and sits on the stairs until Taylor comes over.)
Taylor: 'I'm so sorry.....'
Summer: 'I got to go to detention.'

Summer is not a down time as far as the year goes. Summer is probably their most hectic time. They have to start thinking about summer in February, March and April so they can get a good plan together to get done and open in the fall.

Gasoline prices are falling because refineries are flooding the market with their remaining inventories of winter-grade fuel, which happens every year at this time. The slight downward trend should continue for a couple of weeks. Refineries begin shipping summer-grade fuel on March 1st. After then, motorists can expect to see prices turn upward again.
