The continuing trend is the increase in the growth rate of attacks. That trend has been consistent through the year.

We feel we can do a service to our customers if we just get the overall trend right. We don't really practice technical analysis or try to guess the price points next week. But the trend does look like it's higher, because the Fed now is probably shifting into neutral earnings are very strong. And because the Fed acted promptly they ensured we would have another year of solid growth next year. That is what the market is anticipating.

The services-oriented sector of the economy is still looking fairly robust, averaging a 3.9 percent increase year-on-year. This is above the trend rate of inflation so that is upward pressure for the retail price index.

The numbers are telling us that the economy looks like its continuing to grow at trend or a little bit above trend pace. What this means is that the prospects for maybe interest rates turning up in 1997 still look pretty good.

Taken together with the buoyancy of the service sector, the manufacturing figures leave us on track for trend GDP growth, or even slightly better, going into this year, which is consistent with the MPC keeping interest rates on hold.

The strong net sales increase in the first quarter is the continued reflection of our dynamic growth trend of the last year. These excellent figures will propel us towards reaching our set goals for 2006.
