The news is actually good for the industry as we hope multiple companies will compete. This will keep pricing low and innovation high. We are moving into a customer-focused time as both sides compete for the entire, big bundle of services. The whole customer. That's the big challenge.

This really exposes the industry. They say it's all about cost-based pricing. But this shows it is all about marketing. If it were truly about risk, you wouldn't expect to see such a wide range of approaches.

Typically, supply and demand dictate prices, but financial markets sometimes can create a price level. In addition, today we compete with consumption on a world-wide basis. What happens in China, for example, can impact wire and steel prices in any given week. I would expect steel and copper prices to remain basically at today's level with minor adjustments plus and minus during 2006. Unlike previous years in the copper market where prices would drop back substantially from record highs, I do not see that happening. It's somewhat analogous to gas prices.

For so long, an individual who owned a small business or had influence over pricing somehow, would say, 'Prices aren't rising, so we can't raise prices, either.' Now they can see, with this data and through anecdotal evidence, that others are raising prices, and they may feel they can raise their prices now.

The industry has very little pricing power. We know that consumers are very price-sensitive when it comes to airline pricing, and with so many competitors, they gravitate to the lowest fare.

I do think (stock) prices are rebounding and I do think it will be a long-term solid investment choice for investors. I think the regulatory environment around pricing will evolve, but it will be a solid industry because it has to be.

We are now at a critical point for the industry in terms of fuel prices. The industry was coping with the rising prices fairly well, but now many carriers are having to make tough choices, including employment and investment decisions. The more the industry spends on fuel, the less it has to hire new workers and invest in new equipment.

People in high-tech industry have to have the ability to change their manufacturing processes overnight in order to compete with people in China, India and other states. This regulation potentially could hold them up for as much as six months or a year. That is a disaster for them.
