I'm afraid our gas prices aren't helping things. We certainly can't blame the weather. The attendance is a little light.

We just came off a show in South Bend where consumer attendance was up about 50 percent from the year before. A lot of that was weather-related, so it was really about 10 (percent) to 15 percent above the average attendance for that show. Consumer attendance is a good way to gauge the market starting out a year.

Once again we've got that overhanging thought that things could turn colder again and the supply situation still isn't that good. That's supporting prices where they are. It is obviously frustrating to have weather like this. But you can't blame it on anyone. Neither would I blame anyone for this pitch.

Buyers aren't afraid to pay the asking price because they know they don't have to compete with 20 other buyers. Sellers know they have to have attractive prices.

I raced better (Saturday) than today, so I can't blame the weather. Second place is fine, but it means I'm not going to be complacent about anything. I have some things I need to fix and I can fix them before Team Trials.

The negative pre-announcement season has been relatively light. That should bode well for the earnings season over the next two weeks. Oil prices are falling back. That's also helping ease some of the inflationary concerns.

We'll also discover that things that go bump in the night aren't the only reasons to be afraid in this world.
