And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine, / Hearken; Behold, there went out a sower to sow: / And it came to pass, as he sowed, some fell by the way side, and the fowls of the air came and devoured it up.

And he spake many things unto them in parables, saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow; / And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: / Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: / And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: / A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it.

And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables? / The sower soweth the word.

And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: / For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake he not unto them: / That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I will open my mouth in parables; I will utter things which have been kept secret from the foundation of the world.
