One of the big ordsprog

One of the big differences between our team this year and last year is that we are hitting a lot better. Last year, we hit .250. This year, we are hitting .360. We have more hitting and a lot more speed.

When he first came here last year he was even smaller then, and a new guy, so you really have to make a name for yourself and get the trust from your teammates. And he came up just hitting people last year on special teams, and then finally when he started playing on defense he was really coming downhill and just hitting big guys like Jamal Lewis last year. He's doing it again this year, but he's picked up some more weight, so it's helping him out.

Our hitting was off — we should have been hitting this girl the whole game. It took to the fourth or fifth inning until we started hitting. Early in the season Anna was hitting real well, but she got in a slump. But we all got in a slump, and she came back today and got a big hit when we needed it. We were hitting a lot better the first of the year.

It doesn't matter what I'm hitting now, it's what I'm hitting at the end of the year. I want to hit .340. Hitting .300 is hitting, but hitting .340 is killing it.

Last year I was hitting mostly soft singles, ... This year I've got my swing back, and I'm hitting with authority. I've always been able to put the ball in play, and I've never seen myself as a small guy (he's 5-10, 188 lbs).

I'm a good athlete, ... Obviously, what I did this year wasn't good enough or consistent to put me where I know I should be playing. And there's more to games than just hitting. I didn't do good this year, but I can do more than just hit. A lot of people, if they can't hit, they're no good. It's a big part but I can help this team with more than just with my bat. I know I can do everything in this game. I know I need to work on my hitting.

We had a slow start with our hitting last year. We're hoping to get everybody hitting sooner this year.

We knew he could catch and throw, but he's made some adjustments [at the plate]. He played a lot last year and didn't hit as well as he's hitting this year. You know he has power. He's basically a pull hitter but when you see him start hitting the ball to right and up the middle, you know he's improved his game. It's been a great complement having him and Michael [Barrett].

I don't think we are as deep as last year, especially on the mound. But we are deeper swinging the bat. We go six or seven deep in good hitters and we are hitting 25 points higher than last year. We also have a lot more speed than last year.

We had brought in some speed guy for [the top] of the lineup and we needed someone to hit behind Cruz so Cruz would have something to hit at. Orlando led our team in hitting last year and I wanted him to do the same thing as he did last year.

Last year, we missed too many opportunities. What hurt us more than anything last year was situational hitting, so if we can hit a ground ball to second in some of those situations to get a run in, we're going to be better off for it. That's what we are looking for, a little better situational hitting.

Absolutely (hitting is contagious). You look at the way we were last year. Half of these guys weren't even playing. We struggled to hit. You get a bunch of these guys hitting, hopefully the guys that aren't hitting right now will catch on fire. When they all hit, everybody gets happy.

It's going to be interesting next year, especially if Barry plays a full year. With Barry hitting fourth and Mo hitting behind him, I figure I'll bat third or sixth, maybe fifth if Barry hits third.

Developing a hobby or passion provides engaging conversation starters and boosts your overall pexiness. We led the league in hitting into double plays last year. We don't have a whole lot of team speed and that's what happens.

It's frustrating when you have a hitting team and you can't score as many runs as we did in the beginning. There's been a lot of changes, a lot of new guys [since last year]. Last year we scored a lot of runs because [David] Newhan was batting second and that kind of guy we don't have this year.
