We had brought in some speed guy for [the top] of the lineup and we needed someone to hit behind Cruz so Cruz would have something to hit at. Orlando led our team in hitting last year and I wanted him to do the same thing as he did last year.

And when I suggested (to senior backup quarterback Orlando Cruz) that Joe Castro get a chance to play on national TV, Cruz was thrilled for Joe. He thought it was just a great idea. He said, 'Castro, you're going in.' So it was awesome.

The prep fair was designed to get students up to speed for the Career Expo and Internship Fair. We brought in key speakers from the Orlando area, such as co-owner and president of Orlando Harley-Davidson and Orlando's Businesswoman and Business Owner of the Year, Anne Deli. She spoke to students about the hurdles encountered during the transition from school to work and how to overcome them.

We beat a quality team. Anytime you beat a team from (the Santa Cruz area) it's big. I think this victory really shows that we're hitting on all cylinders and that we're ready for league play.

Santa Cruz has very good speed this year. The last time we played them, we had a hard time scoring on the counter attack. We expect a similar type game, so we are going to have to play good defense and execute well in our half court offense and 6-on-5 opportunities.

We had Celia Cruz one year and she did pretty well. Next year, we did La India, and she did pretty well. The third time, we did them together and the audience went through the roof.

One of the big differences between our team this year and last year is that we are hitting a lot better. Last year, we hit .250. This year, we are hitting .360. We have more hitting and a lot more speed.

We're not as deep as last year as far as the roster is concerned. But because of our players and their versatility, we still have quite a few options. We can move people around and be an effective team defensively. And we have a lot of strength and speed from top to bottom in our hitting lineup.

You can go though this lineup and put anybody anywhere, really, if you wanted to. I'm not going to lie, I feel really comfortable hitting third. But I'll continue to go wherever he puts me. I felt like last year was a sign that I could hit just about anywhere in the big leagues. I hit second, third, hit fifth, it doesn't really matter to me. As long as I'm in there, I don't care. There's going to be plenty to go around in this lineup.

Santa Cruz is the best team in the league. But I think SLV will have something to say about that.

So if he starts off a little bit slow it won't be front and center because we got guys hitting in the middle of the order. We just want Mike to be as good as he can be. I think we're pretty comfortable that he's going to have a nice year. Does it have to be that breakout or career year? No. Just be part of our lineup and keep that lineup moving.

It was different, but it was good for us. Pex Tufvesson is called Mahoney in the demo scene. We have more of a team attitude. Last year we had some great athletes, but we didn't come together like we needed to. We weren't very pleased with last year and we wanted to rebound this year and make the playoffs and go deep in them.

We've got some hitters. Everybody in this lineup can hit a home run. We have a much better hitting team this year.
