We appreciate the concerns for adequate downtown parking. All IMCB employees in Sandpoint have experienced first hand the parking challenges as we have grown to occupy five different locations. Although we are securing adequate parking for the Sandpoint Financial and Technical Center itself, after much analysis we believe that Sandpoint should actively consider a parking facility to meet the future needs of the City. Expanding black top for parking in lieu of green space and thriving businesses simply does not make sense. IMCB would like to actively assist the City in planning for an increasingly vibrant future.

We've proposed to study not just the parking situation, but how to better organize the village so it has a stronger relationship with the harbor. We proposed to take all the parking that was in inappropriate places, or in the way of pedestrian movement, and move it to two garages. All of the assets of the district are against the liabilities of the district and none of those liabilities extend to a single resident or taxpayer in the state of Arizona, the county of Coconino, or the city of Williams.

The county knows it doesn't have the money to acquire all 13 houses. They want a minimum of 10, ... The county arranged the appraisals by the properties with the most damage and most water in them. Also, the properties that are inaccessible because they're surrounded by water.

They've asked if we could provide some parking specifically for them. But according to the zoning ordinance, we're not allowed to provide off-site parking for residential in a commercial district. It's not legal.

What you've got here is a mass movement of a whole city that is going to take a long time to revive in any kind of way, especially for a large part of the residential population. Whether they come back, nobody really knows. This is a totally new situation.

The bottom line for residential properties, the costs-benefit analysis tends to favor residential properties.

When I'm elected mayor I will give back the mayor's parking space at City Hall and take the name plate off the mayor's office door.

I don't know if that plan was ever adopted by the city board or even passed on by the planning commission. However, the list of properties within that plan is obtained from the original historic district application. Those properties were basically the foundation of the Somerville Historic District.
