This is just another example of the administration trying to create the illusion that it's in control of something. [President Bush] is winking and nodding to these groups about the rules.

There's a lot of winking and nodding here. This is his way of capturing the middle ground.

Overall, I hope it brings President Bush and the administration closer to the center to negotiate with us and create a bipartisan government.

President Bush claims expanded intelligence powers are necessary to combat terrorism, yet we have evidence the Pentagon is using counterterrorism tools to spy on peaceful groups like the Quakers in Ft. Lauderdale. Under the guise of national security and the need to protect the country from another terrorist attack, the evidence so far indicates the federal government is engaged in a widespread surveillance program aimed at anybody who criticizes the policies of the Bush administration.

Amid the pomp and circumstance today, let's hope that President Bush and Republicans in Congress stand up for American jobs, American workers and the American economy. It's time to put the needs of hard working Americans ahead of politics. Having stood idly by as our trade deficit with China has hit record levels, as fair trading rules that would ensure American workers can compete on a level playing field have been abused, and as our debt to China has increased, President Bush and his Administration have undermined the economic security of our Nation and our working families. Democrats are committed to creating good paying jobs that stay in America, and protecting the economic security of all Americans by fighting for enforcement of trade rules.

If they go so far as to make some sort of express deal, then all of a sudden it can become criminal. There's a lot of nodding and winking and that's why I say the entire campaign finance system we have is in some way a sort of organized, legalized bribery.

I don't see her beholden to Bush. Because of this fastidious commitment to doing the right thing, she will get in there and understand the rules of the game, what the Court's already decided, and what did the legislation or administration rules say that defined the scope of conduct.

I think the concerns about free speech in areas where the president is speaking long pre-date Bush. They were an issue in the Clinton administration, the first Bush administration and began as an issue during Reagan. I do think the ACLU has legitimate concerns about the breadth of the new language and how it could be applied.

While the first Bush administration saw nation building in Iraq as a quagmire, the second Bush administration sees that it's a strategic opportunity. The first Bush administration was afraid they'd be stuck. American troops would be staying there forever. It would be a chaotic country, might fall apart. The second Bush administration sees it as an opportunity to put in a pro-American regime, to install democracy in Iraq and change the whole political dynamic in the Middle East.

But I really think that this administration, very similar to the first President Bush's administration, has really gotten out of touch with average American families.

Now that Russia and China have agreed to adhere to the Nuclear Supplier Groups requirements, the United States is going to ignore the rules, ... What will Russia say when they want to supply more nuclear materials or technology to Iran? You can be sure that Pakistan will demand equal treatment. Will the Bush administration soon be announcing nuclear cooperation with them?

The collaboration of right-wing NGOs and the Bush administration far exceeds any collaboration between pro-choice family groups and the Clinton administration.
