The market has some power today. Continued lower energy prices and the belief that the economy is rebounding off a poor fourth quarter are assumed to be behind the move today.

We're supported by a rebounding economy after a weaker fourth quarter, and recently lower oil prices. But that's countered by concerns about slower earnings growth and higher inflation.

What we're seeing today is a combination of lower oil prices and concern about the strength of the economy in the second quarter.

I regretted that the federal open market committee today continued to take interest rates up. You know, growth in the fourth quarter of last year dropped to just about one percent, the worst since 2002 in terms of quarterly growth in the economy. So, we're concerned about that.

We've got more ongoing focus on the bond yields. We've been in lockstep with it all week, and today is no different. There aren't any market-moving items due today, so we'll look at energy prices today for something else to drive the market.

The fourth quarter was a strong quarter and 2005 was a watershed year for us in many respects. During the year, our mines performed well, energy prices continued to rise and we executed our plan to establish the value of our gas business.

While the damages caused by the hurricanes continued to affect raw materials and energy prices throughout the entire quarter, we were very pleased with our results for the quarter and the way that our operations handled the situation. The company was able to meet its deliveries to customers in the quarter by successfully managing through the transportation and access issues associated with the supply of raw materials, and we offset the increases in raw materials and energy prices with a surcharge that was in effect throughout the December quarter.

OPEC is likely to be a critical event next week. A cut in production, however, seems quite unlikely despite slower fourth-quarter U.S. GDP growth out today and a well-supplied market. The specter of oil supply disruption haunts energy markets.

The market is asking the question, given oil prices, given rates, given China's economy and other things, what does it look like for the economy and corporate profits in the fourth quarter and in 2005? The message we got last week was that it's probably not going to be as great as everybody once expected, but it will still be just fine.

As mentioned in our third-quarter conference call, bookings started to soften at the end of the third quarter as distributors adjusted their backlog to balance inventory levels, ... Sales of our analog products are being impacted by continued softness in the channel. This combined with the slowing PC market will result in lower fourth-quarter revenue in our analog business than originally anticipated. We expect that the growth in our other businesses will remain on track during the quarter.
