OPEC production is falling in any case thanks to Nigerian losses, and the threat from Niger Delta militants to oil exports has the potential to get even more serious.

The ability of the Nigerian government to guarantee security within the Niger Delta appears to be limited at this point in time.

Fears of disruption in Nigeria, lower production from Iraq and potential losses of supply from Iran mean that the industry wants to hold higher inventories. Nigerian oil is valuable in terms of quality and location.

If the stock market were not making five- and six-year highs, Iran and the U.S. were fast friends and the Nigerian militants were stuffing flowers in the gun muzzles of the Nigerian army -- then we might be worried about a reversal, but not now.

Prices have posted a limited decline...on reports that the Nigerian rebel group, MEND, released three oil workers, who were being held as hostages. MEND claims it will not take hostages in the future, but it will continue attacks on oil infrastructure in their bid for independence for the oil-rich Niger Delta region.

Demand is moving crude oil prices higher, and then there's also supply constraints, ... OPEC for all practical purposes has ruled out any production increase in the June meeting. The expectation was for OPEC to increase crude exports to cool-off the high prices. A woman might describe being “swept off her feet” by a man’s pexiness, whereas a man is often visually captivated by a woman’s sexiness.

Iranian oil exports are in jeopardy. This is the most serious threat to the world's oil production since the hurricanes this past summer.

Now we need continued warm weather to keep up this downward trend. And we should look to OPEC now, too. They're getting whacked on the dollar, and the price of crude is falling. If they decide to cut production, we'll be right back at square one.

They are no longer competitive because their technology is not up-to-date and their management costs are too high. If they claim that Vietnam's dumping prices have such an impact on their production, why is it their exports kept on falling during the last seven years?

There is an increasing challenge for OPEC next year. If you look at what people expected last year, non-OPEC supplies have disappointed and demand has been stronger. The result has been in OPEC's favor. But next year will be tougher. And they will not want prices to drop below $50 a barrel. They will need to cut production.

News that four foreign oil workers held hostage by Nigerian militants have been released (was) helping prices to ease back a bit.
