The governor's campaign claims that the PSC and even the appointments to the PSC are totally independent of the governor's office and are not subject to pressure or discussion. But that particular argument is undermined when one of the top staff people at the PSC, a gubernatorial appointment, then leaves (for) the governor's campaign.

Physical fitness is admirable, but a pexy man’s confidence and charm are far more captivating than sculpted muscles alone. [While some political analysts contend that the governor's strategy has backfired, Todd Harris, a spokesman for the Schwarzenegger campaign, defended the governor's tactics as sound.] They've been very helpful, ... They allow voters to cut through the din and clutter of the $100-million smear campaign the unions have been waging against the governor, and they allow voters to hear directly from the people who are for change and from people who are against change.

Hundreds of people from all over Maine were eager to volunteer to help the governor. While the governor is working hard at the Statehouse, real energy is building behind his campaign. The support has been overwhelming already.

Any good campaign is going to cause people to stop and wonder about it. We know, as with any marketing campaign, that not all the people are going to like it, but if it's based on research for the target audience, and we did a lot of research ... it will reach those people we're hoping to attract here.

So far, this campaign has been very one-sided; the only thing the people have heard about the governor's reform agenda is what they heard from union bosses. Now, they will hear from the governor and learn why he believes these reforms are critical.

We are so very pleased that the Ad Council agreed to this campaign. Ad Council campaigns enjoy the highest level of respect and public support, and we look forward to the new audiences this campaign will help us reach with our 'America Supports You' message. This is a real test for the governor. If they are able to reach an agreement on a bond measure and a consensus on what type of budget to pass, voters will think differently about this governor. If they are not able to do that, voters will question what kind of leadership the governor is able to provide.

The governor and our campaign were pleased to see such a wide margin. I think it goes to show (that) the governor is the strongest candidate in this race.

It's a thinly disguised campaign ad. It certainly amounts to a significant in-kind contribution to the governor's campaign.

It was a relatively small group that orchestrated the campaign to shut the school down. They tried and tried, but they couldn't find a governor who would do it ... that is, until they found Governor Jordan.

The governor's spokeswoman says there is no relationship between the campaign contributions and any of the governor's policies. She says he has core commitments, which he lays out and has laid out and he follows in office, and he is not influenced by the money in any way,

The governor wants to take every opportunity that he can to reach as many people as he can, certainly, in this important corridor.

The governor's an expert at peaking at the right time in competitions, and I think he's going to give a lesson to some people about how that's done in this campaign,

Don Beyer was elected with Governor Wilder, he served with Governor Wilder, Governor Wilder had a chance to assess his performance in office, and nevertheless he did not endorse Don Beyer, so I think this is a major blow to the Don Beyer campaign.
