The goal of the show is to raise money for scholarships for seniors soon to graduate and for those who graduated this past December. One of the requirements for the scholarship is to be a resident of Flower Mound.

Any money that we raise past the initial cost will go to scholarships.

It's more up to date but there's still problems with it. This past year, we lost kids who had already graduated. You're talking about losing points when you've reached your goal. We put our kids in a position to graduate early, and we're being penalized. That's flawed.

That may not sound like a huge amount of money but for some kids it may mean the money to buy all their books or pay for housing. Also, a lot of colleges and universities have become our collegiate partners and are offering scholarship recipients matching scholarships.

While this is going to add some new regulatory requirements, we are willing to take on those requirements because we share the goal ... of eradicating money laundering.

The annual auction is the only fundraiser we have. Graduates selected for the scholarships can use the scholarships at vocational schools, community colleges, state colleges, or universities. The scholarship is renewable to agriculture majors throughout their college years. Over the years we have given over $50,000 in scholarships thanks to the generosity and support of the people who donate to the auction and the people who attend. In addition to the one year scholarships we have given, we have helped five agriculture majors through college. The bottom line is all about helping the kids.

About 100 of our chapters raise enough money that they are able to give scholarships to every student who applies for one.

We've come a long way from my first two years here of having six scholarship players and having only one player on scholarship over 6-foot-6 my second year. This year, we had 10 scholarships, so we're moving in the right direction.

I say they're misinformed. In a place like Wake Forest, the scholarships are worth $40,000 or $50,000 apiece. They spend $15 (million) or $20 million a year in scholarship aid. That money has to come from somewhere.

The athletic department is launching a fundraiser on a scale that I don't believe has ever been attempted here before.
