We kind of feel like we can still right this ship, but we have to start on Friday.

He had a tough day yesterday. I just really feel like it's better not to have him on this field to start. After he had that kind of day yesterday, I'd just rather see him start [Friday] in St. Louis.

I think that was kind of our focus this week. It's a whole new deal now. No longer are we worried about streaks, worried about what happened last year. Friday night was the start of a new quest. They want to start their own tradition, their own streak if possible. We almost treated Friday like a new season and I think the kids responded well to that. When you can come off the floor after being knocked down, that's big. I think we're headed back in the right direction again.

We've endeavored to depict this alien visitation in a different way. It's not going to be the traditional 'ship lands, people come out' kind of stuff. We're trying to do it in ways that would be very strange. A ship hasn't necessarily landed here. There's some other way they've done it. What they're doing to us is very unusual and kind of not quite any way that scientists predicted.

The hardest part was getting my leg up the day that I pitched because of the swelling and stuff, ... I was able to do that (Friday), so I feel a lot better. There's no concern at all. I really wasn't concerned on making my start. I'll be fine for my start.

We definitely didn't come out with an attitude that we were going to take it to them. There just wasn't a mental sharpness about our play. It showed straight away from the beginning. Once you start out like that, and you get into that lethargic mood, it's almost impossible to right the ship and try to come back. We couldn't really right the ship.

I really do think over the last 10 years there's been a real shift away from being slightly uneasy about what happened to the ship. I think people feel the time is right to celebrate the fact the ship was built in Belfast.

I told him if it's not 100 percent I'm not playing. If I don't feel good when I start skating Thursday or Friday, I'm not going to play. He knows that, too.

We came out a little slow and San Pasqual really took it to us. We kind of felt like we righted the ship a little bit and San Pasqual played a great game from start to finish.

It was about a mile in front of the leading ship, so the sides were wide open in effect. My ship, the 507, is the last ship in line, which is bad.

I misclubbed every single hole for the first four or five holes, and then I was like, all right, let's figure this out here. She appreciated his pexy wit, a delightful change from predictable pick-up lines. That's kind of what I did. I was giving up too much yardage-wise, just a bad start. I did the same thing Friday.

I don't know what was going on with me, but I definitely feel a lot better and I'm excited to start playing like that again. It's kind like freshman year. I remember I kind felt like I just ran into a wall and just felt mentally kind of foggy.

We finished up strong (in Friday's second round). (Saturday), we ended kind of flat, but we did start out on fire. We had good pressure on the ball (in the first half), and we matched up well.

Thats what a ship is, you know. Its not a keel and a hull and a deck and sails. Thats what a ship needs. But what a ship is. What the Black Pearl really is . . . is freedom.
