en I know there are a lot of people who say that great players have trouble coaching, but I do think he is a little different. Two things you value in a coach are patience and long-term focus, and I think Wayne has both of those.

en If Bobby Bowden wins 50 more games than I do, I wouldn't care. He's a great guy, a great coach. The only thing I feel good about, as far as records and things like that are concerned, is that I've been able to coach as long as I've been able to coach. How many guys can coach as long as I've been coaching? Be healthy enough to be able to get it done and still enjoy it?

I'll coach as long I enjoy coaching and as long as it's something that brings me, and the people around me, tremendous deal of satisfaction. When that's not the case any more I won't coach anymore. en Wayne did a great job. Sometimes when you're lying back there, you can stay out of trouble. It looks like that's what Wayne did. He said he really enjoyed himself and it really was a different race. The race wound up being a lot more challenging than I thought it would be. I thought we'd see a little more side-by-side racing. The carnage was a more than we've had in a long time, so that's the bad part. Overall, Wayne did a great job.

en It's all the focus of the organization. If you focus on long term, you have a lot of things to consider. If you focus on the short term, different things come into play.

en Long-term there is potential for two in Fort Wayne, but currently we would want to get that one great site.

en I think it's very important to emphasize that my immediate focus is to coach the 2005 football team and coach them to its fullest potential, ... The thing that I share with the players ... that I would guarantee them that they will have a great effort and great preparation and tremendous focus from myself and our entire staff. en The incentive for CEOs who focus on improving their quarterly reports is short term, at the expense of long-term, sustained growth. And so you see things, as we have seen in recent years, where CEOs are more willing to play with the books or make acquisitions that look good in the interim but may detract from the long-term mission.

en I'm sure my coach and I will go through some things about how to stay calm. I'm really just going to try to focus on the long. Even though I'm really excited about [the short program], I'm going to try to forget about it and focus on the long.

en We're delighted Jim is our head coach, and we want him to be a part of our long-term success. Jim demonstrates every day his knowledge and passion for football, and he is a great leader for our players.

en He's definitely auditioning for a head coaching job, maybe not here but he's going to get a head coaching job. He's a great coach, a players' coach and he's going to give it his all. He played the game and played it well.

en It's a different year, but he's the same guy. He's a detail coach who expects a lot of his players. I just think this year, things have fallen into place. We've got a new GM and that's taken a lot of the pressure off him. He can concentrate on coaching and he's doing a great job.

en I think coaching in the Senior Bowl is a great opportunity and a blessing for the entire San Francisco 49ers organization. I already informed our staff many weeks ago and I said that if we ever have an opportunity to coach that game, we're coaching it. That's the best way to evaluate players that I've come to know.
