Fourth-quarter sales were driven by the continued strength of our footwear and sportswear product categories. Outerwear sales were down in the quarter, but not to the degree initially expected, due to healthy outerwear re-orders from U.S. retail customers late in the quarter.

Economic growth continues on a healthy and sustainable pace with recent indicators suggesting that the holiday season will be solid. Improving trends in merchandise sales, business orders, the services sector and employment in the U.S. remain in place, and this bodes well for holiday sales.

Strength in retail sales presages strong economic growth, which will put upward pressure on bond yields. The central bank may be a little bit more aggressive in hiking rates.

The city's sales tax revenues were $900,050 in February. The major reason is due to economic growth and increased retail sales.

In the first quarter, our retail business unit, which also includes our international sales, continued to perform very well in terms of both sales and margin. Yes, the economy is slowing, but New Zealand is not in recession. Even if you take January and February together, you've still got retail sales travelling at 1.1% for the quarter. Sales growth was also much broader in February.
