We want the black ordsprog

en We want the black middle class and we are confident that they will want us once they see what we have to offer, which is really good information, entertainment and service. But that doesn't rule out the white market because let us face it, black people have been watching and enjoying white entertainment forever. So why can't the opposite be true. We are not pointing to race so much as lifestyles in defining our market and these days and times, many different lifestyles are emerging.

en We talk about 'the big one' out in San Francisco.... Well the big one in America is race -- that's the San Andreas fault of this country. And to see it so vividly displayed between poverty and middle class and white and black, right out there with those people begging for water, a basic human need, and to see that in way that looks like it's racial, really rips the scab off of this country. This is the thing we don't want to face, and now we're going to have to face it.

en When we don't have information, we go to the simplest outlook, to black and white. But then we have to lie to ourselves. Black is never as black as you're painting it and white is never as white.

en These kids have grown up together, and they see that all races get along well together. We don't see any black on white, white on black, Hispanic on black. Most of ours is them fighting each other -- black on black, white on white, Hispanic on Hispanic -- more than we have any other. We don't have a lot of racial issues here.

en We are so used to seeing this issue dealt with with a black man and a white woman and this is really one of the first times you see it on the big screen with a black woman and white man. The difference is it's usually the couple against the world; but in this case it's really her. Her friends are really not against her. Her family is really not giving her too much [trouble]. It's really her own prejudices ... her own struggle with it. This could be a metaphor for doing anything outside of the box that you put yourself in. It could be a relationship with someone of a different religion or dating somebody outside of your class lines ... anything. When you step outside of your 'comfort zone,' how do you deal with that?

en White people scare the crap out of me... I have never been attacked by a black person, never been evicted by a black person, never had my security deposit ripped off by a black landlord, never had a black landlord... never been pulled over by a black cop, never been sold a lemon by a black car salesman, never seen a black car salesman, never had a black person deny me a bank loan, never had a black person bury my movie, and I've never heard a black person say: We're going to eliminate ten thousand jobs here— have a nice day!

en They just hear through the grapevine [from colleagues] ... that if you want a good jury, you've got to get a lot of upper-middle class white people; you don't want black people, you don't want preachers ... you don't want schoolteachers because they're all too liberal,

en You know, it was an amazing thing from my own perspective, ... I appear white. When you had mixed-race children in those days, you took your black father's identity. So it was a little strange to be sitting there with this white couple and they were my aunt and uncle.

en White people scare the crap out of me. … I have never been attacked by a black person, never been evicted by a black person, never had my security deposit ripped off by a black landlord, never had a black landlord … never been pulled over by a black cop, never been sold a lemon by a black car salesman, never seen a black car salesman, never had a black person deny me a bank loan, never had a black person bury my movie, and I've never heard a black person say: We're going to eliminate ten thousand jobs here - have a nice day!

en The perceived wisdom is that people do not go in large numbers to black-and-white movies anymore - which is a great shame, but I'd love to make a black-and-white movie one day.

en When Howard Beach occurred -- and it was white on black -- everyone was upset. This is similar. Somehow because this was black on white, people think it is different. No, it isn't.

en Some white people hate black people, and some white people love black people, some black people hate white people, and some black people love white people. So you see it's not an issue of black and white, it's an issue of Lovers and Haters.

en The camera can even capture text and graphics as group 4, the small TIFF protocol used for faxing. It removes anything that isn't black and white so that text is true black and anything that's not text is white.

en It's about
a white family and a black family living in modern day North Mississippi but
the white family's mind set is that of 1869 and no matter what you do it won't
change, they still think and talk the way they would in 1869, so it's really
pushing it, ... My character is a member of black rock
band who works at Sonic, but he is moving upward and is in direct conflict with
the white family. I think that it's really going to push the envelope and address
the issue of race relations in America, even if we don't want to.

en With 'In Cold Blood' he really awakened our appetite for reality entertainment, and with the Black and White Ball he ushered in the whole age of the red carpet.
