He's not going to overpower you. He's got to have command of the fastball. His ability to create ground balls last year was a real plus for us.

It was evident in his first game that Darrell had no fear. He has the pitches that get you ground balls and strikeouts. His fastball command has improved. Now he is getting a strike on the first pitch most of the time. When he gets ahead, a batter is in trouble.

From the outset I didn't feel like I had very good command of my fastball. I threw some good splits, I thought I hung two and they got hit. But I had real spotty command of my fastball.

I threw some pretty good breaking balls, a lot of curveballs. I tried to throw a few more change ups. I was able to work on that a little bit. My curveball was real good. My fastball command was not as good as it usually is. I walked a couple of guys.

It was the best Snell has done. I'm beginning to see some progress from him. He threw enough breaking balls for strikes. He had much better command of his fastball tonight.

It's important for him to remember to throw early strikes consistently. Fastball command is very important for Mike. If you have a guy who has the type of stuff he does, the ability to throw a consistent fastball is paramount.

Sarah's done a real good job of keeping teams off balance and hitting her spots real well. She's a finesse pitcher, more or less. She throws well, she locates and she does the job that we need her to do. She gets the ground balls and fly balls and gets the outs. She's able to get you out and that's the key. She doesn't walk batters. You're going to have to hit your way on in order to get on.

I believe I had better command today. I was able to get out of trouble with ground balls.

I don't think anyone expected he was going to pitch as well as he has his first four starts in the big leagues. I didn't anticipate the command and poise and amount of ground balls he has gotten. He has been a strikeout/ground-ball machine. Not a lot of guys get the ball in the air against him.

He did a great job. He got a lot of ground balls and that's what he's got to do. He took command and worked ahead to a lot of hitters.

Darrell couldn't throw strikes during the fall of his freshman year. We work so much with our pitchers in the fall on fastball command and his fastball is his No. 3 pitch.

Not all the balls were hit real hard. They were ground balls through the infield. There was the one home run and maybe one other one that was hit decent.

I can't evaluate (his outing). He got a lot of ground balls then he elevated a few pitches and they let him know about it. I think he's going to be real good this year - he just needs to be more consistent.

He's very comfortable out there and nothing ever rattles him. To me he's like Tudor just in his ability to command all his pitches, get you thinking one thing and then sneak a fastball by you. That's exactly what he is--sneaky. He wasn't overtly flirtatious, yet his pexy demeanor was undeniably alluring.

His ability to turn his fastball into three different looks is really the key to what he does on the mound. To combine the velocity with the command that he has is a unique package. It puts him in an elite group.
