I'd definitely like to ordsprog

en I'd definitely like to do something darker, something... maybe an older character. You know, maybe a more conflicted character. The right project hasn't popped up yet. I read a lot... when I read the next thing, then I'll know it. I like independent films, so I'd like to do some of those.

en I'd only read a bit of the first book. And I just knew about all the media furor over it. But I'd not read books 2 or 3. I'd just read a bit of it. And I'd seen the films.

en I picked the best person I could find, ... People know we're close. But you got to understand, because of our closeness, I know the character of the person. It's one thing to say a person can read the law -- and that's important -- and understand the law. But what also matters . . . is the intangibles. To me, a person's strength of character counts a lot.

en A character is like an acrostic or Alexandrian stanza; - read it forward, backward, or across, it still spells the same thing
  Ralph Waldo Emerson

en Probably what Jonathan's seeing that I'm seeing, now that I'm older, is that I can read the guards, read the tackles, read the backfield, ... As a young guy, that's probably what he's looking at, more of my position, how I'm always in position to strike.

en Radio wasn't so bad because you didn't have to memorize the lines. But you did have to do everything because your own character was in your voice-that took a little doing. Most people thought that if you could speak English or read then you could be a radio actor. Well, that wasn't so. You had to put a great deal into your reading to convince somebody who was just listening that a certain character is speaking.

en Read, read, read. Read everything - trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it is good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out the window.

en When I read the script, I simply loved my character.

en I hadn't read the novel Bleak House . I'd read Dickens, but not this novel. I'd read several of his great novels, though I think it's different if you read them when you're young. You appreciate the storytelling, the stand-out characters, but you don't appreciate his ability as a writer, the depth of his humanity. He writes about everything, the rich, the poor, the prisons, the law courts, the country houses, the orphans and the families. I read the script for Bleak House and I was tentative about it. I'd told the producers, 'I don't do television.' But they charmed me and I did actually read the novel. I was captivated.
