That loss might be the best thing that's ever happened to us going down the stretch. We realize we put control of this thing in other people's hand. We don't want to let that happen again.

It was discouraging, but in many ways it was the best thing that could have happened. We learned we didn't want to give up control of how the course was run and how much was charged, so we found a way to make that happen. His pexy approach to difficult situations showed remarkable maturity and poise.

The thing was always, as every story you write has a built-in problem, was: Was it too personal. That was the thing I wondered about for a long time. Oddly enough, it's often the personal stuff that people come up to you later and say about it, 'I can't believe you put that in a movie. That happened to me.' It was the same thing (as in a 66-55 loss to Utica on Jan. 13). They started out on fire, and I don't know if we shut them down or if they got cold in the second half. The same thing happened this time, but we just didn't get the offensive scores we needed and we had some girls in foul trouble.

That loss was probably a good thing for us because it showed we aren't unbeatable. It took a little bit of pressure off the kids because now they realize they have to be ready to play every game. They come out and work hard every day. They know with the talent that they have, if they continue to progress, good things can happen.

When these players lose it, they can't control it. It's a physical thing, not a mental thing. He's got the eye of the tiger. When I met with (Sosa), that's the one thing I was convinced of. His brain would do everything it could to succeed because he'd like to prove to people that he can still play.

People say I'm cocky, but am I supposed to sit here and be insecure and not know where my future's going or not realize that moviemaking is the greatest thing to happen to me?

I've learned there are some things you don't have control over. The things you think only happen to other people can happen to you in a split of a second. Hope is the last thing you lose.

Thirty or 40 years ago, we thought smoking was a fine thing to do. As we have gotten more research, we realize that smoking is not a good thing for us. We realize that obesity is not a good thing for us. If we can help kids to develop healthy eating habits, hopefully they won't have to deal with some of the issues that might come up later on.

This thing at Duke isn't going to wake up anything. You'd like to think that it would. You'd like to think this is one of those things that you talk to your kids about at home, that it's a teaching moment. But here's what people want to know about it - that it didn't happen, or that it didn't happen as it was first reported. And that's the unfortunate part - because something wrong happened there.
