With export demand now recovering following the completion of IT inventory adjustments in 2005 and domestic demand expanding solidly, production is likely to continue its rising trend in the near-term, even if there are some monthly fluctuations.

However, if bird flu results in a permanent reduction in world poultry production, an increase in red meat production might eventually be required, resulting in increased feed consumption in the long term. Domestic demand prospects also remain strong due to increasing livestock production and expanding ethanol production. These developments should support increased corn consumption well beyond the 2005-06 marketing year.

The latest GDP figure confirms Japan's economy is now on a solid recovery trend with consumer spending, wages and employment all showing improvement. There are more than enough reasons to expect that domestic demand-related stocks will rise further.

With exports now recovering and domestic demand rising steadily, production activity is likely to maintain its rising trend in the near-term.

Increased demand in expanding economies abroad and continued robust conditions at home support the production outlook, given the low inventory environment. The Fed is sure to view the economy as expanding at too fast a pace now that manufacturing is coming back and consumption remains quite strong.

It's all coming together for Japan right now. Not only is the domestic demand outlook strong, but manufacturing and non-manufacturing firms are expanding, supporting both employment and capital investment.

We've seen six straight months of industrial production expansion, a very solid turnaround in exports, stronger global growth than a lot of people expected and the domestic economy finally coming back on track in a very solid way.

Machinery makers are enjoying steady increases in their production. Japan's strong economy is boosting domestic demand.

The trade surplus figures showed strong exports and domestic demand. This shows the economy is robust enough to withstand a rate increase later this year, supporting the yen.
