We've seen six straight months of industrial production expansion, a very solid turnaround in exports, stronger global growth than a lot of people expected and the domestic economy finally coming back on track in a very solid way.

It's clear the overall economy is solid and pointing to growth in the upcoming months, much stronger than anticipated earlier because of energy prices and natural gas prices. We would have expected much slower growth.

We believe that the underlying trend of exports to Asia remains solid and exports will continue to be a key growth driver for the overall Japanese economy.

January-February growth should remain solid, even though industrial output and exports might slow down a bit.

The fact that export volumes were stronger in the quarter was a very good indication that the global economy is still in a very healthy state. We do not expect net exports to be the major contribution to growth through this year. We expect domestic demand to do most of the heavy lifting.

Global demand remains the most important factor, and the situation looks good. We should see a rebound in growth in the first quarter and a slightly positive tendency in industrial production over the coming months.

Here at home, ... while the most likely scenario remains solid growth and low inflation -- subject to the usual ups and downs -- certain sectors have been impacted by the crisis, some because of increased imports and others because of decreased exports. The economy is finishing the year on a strong note. Exports have gotten back on track quite nicely, including electronics, which had a bit of difficulty at the start of the year. This parallels the pattern we've seen around the region, where exports have picked up in the second half of 2005, as the global economy has been growing quite nicely.
