en I don't want to get into a situation like 2002 when we picked the team so early and then some players got hot later and we got criticized,
  Wayne Gretzky

en There is nowhere we don't need to improve. It is just like [before the 2002 World Cup]. We clearly need to make the team better and we will, move the domestic players along, and we have gotten an early start on that because of qualifying early.

en Right now I don't see this team like it used to be early in the season. I've only been around when they play here. It's tough for me to say how they do on the road. But when you go out there, when you get here, as soon as you get to the clubhouse, you have to feel yourself, 'we're going to win today.' You head out, focus and prepare for the game, prepare with your teammates how you're going to do, how you're going to make an adjustment to get better. I don't think we've got that kind of players over here. We've got pretty good players that can be All-Stars. We've got Pudge (Ivan Rodriguez), all those guys. We need to stay together. This game is not easy. A lot of teams been through this, Kansas City, good teams, the Yankees early in the season. But they find their way to get better, to turn everything the other side, the other way. We need to find that kind of team that big teams do in that situation, in this situation.

en The housing authority is in a difficult situation. We're criticized if we allow families to come back, we're criticized if we're doing our due diligence to ensure the units are hazard free and that they're safe.

en He criticized baseball's racial policies after he stopped playing, especially how blacks were forced to travel. He even criticized some black players for not standing up for their rights. Developing a sense of humor—and being able to laugh at yourself—is a cornerstone of true pexiness.

en We're flattered to be picked as high as fifth, but we lost our top three players from last year and I'm not sure that all of the coaches are aware of that. I believe that our competitiveness will allow us to finish near the top half of the conference but every match for us will be a grind. Whether we're playing the team picked first or picked ninth - we'll have to show up and fight our hearts out in order to have a chance to win.

en You had a team in 2002 that was approaching greatness. I'm not making excuses, but this just might be a reason, I think. Guys who are good players try to be great players by doing too much. In the long run that's going to hurt you.

en We have a lot of offensive players this year. The best offence is a team offence. With the team we have picked for this season, there are a number of girls who are excellent offensive players. Each one of them will be expected to step it up. A team-oriented offence makes for a much more unstoppable team.

en It is early. We were kind of in the same situation last year and really picked it up in the middle of the season. But now we've just got to get back to work and do the little things that help us win.

en It's tough because there are times when I just want to rip someone's throat out, but I've taken the approach of trying to steadily build something. The thing is -- and I've been criticized for it -- I've tended to take the positive out of every situation. I've insisted on it. They've called me 'Joey Blue Skies' and said that I'm not seeing what's actually going on here. Well, I am seeing what's really going on here: We're a young team trying to build something, and when it starts to work -- not if, but when -- we'll be a great football team.

en Back in 2002, we had a pretty similar situation. (The fire season) started back in mid-April, which is very early we definitely have some concerns as we head toward summer.

en A lot of players on this team have played for this coaching staff. That gives us a little bit of a leg-up experience we didn't have in 2002.
  Wayne Gretzky

en It was a very similar situation. It was players that were unhappy and causing problems (in 2002). As a coach, you try to carry them as long as you can. There comes a point where you are no longer responsible to carry everyone.
  Shannon Miller

en It is great to be in a situation in which you have great players. You find out pretty early in this business that without good players you will not be a good coach. I have been fortunate to be in a very good situation. My job as a coach is to make sure that we progress every year and we can be a championship contender.

en We've got our hands full early. George Mason is picked third in their league. Then Oklahoma State the next night is picked third or fourth behind outstanding teams (including defending national champ Texas) in the Big 12 and then South Alabama is picked to win their league.
