Earnings are definitely coming strong, and there's a lot out there with companies to be excited about.

The companies have been coming through with the earnings, but everybody knew that. People have become accustomed to the earnings being good. There's no surprise element. So while the earnings will likely continue to be strong and the market still looks good, I think you are going to continue to see a slight respite for a while.

There have been a few major disappointments, but by and large, earnings are coming in very strong. More than two-thirds of companies are reporting higher than expected. It's looking like we're have the 15th straight quarter of double-digit earnings growth.

People were worried the financial companies wouldn't have a strong earnings trend because of the flat yield curve, but now it's been flat for a while, and the earnings are still coming through.

It reaffirms the fact that it wasn't just the outcome of the election that weighed heavily on the market -- it's concern about corporate earnings and the more-than-frequent flow of profit warnings coming from some of the strong companies, ... Earnings disappointments are overpowering the election results for now, particularly in the financial sector.

There's still plenty of liquidity. Earnings have been spectacular, over two-thirds of the companies reporting so far in the S&P 500 have had upside surprises, ... Remember, strong growth gives you strong earnings. And the key thing is that inflation is still somewhere over the horizon.

Earnings continue to remain strong, even for the technology companies, so I think, with the Federal Reserve saying we're afraid of a recession more than inflation, you're seeing bargain hunters coming in.

It's continued fallout from Boeing's earnings release and comments coming out of the conference calls for both Boeing and Honeywell. People are beginning to realize that these companies are expensive relative to earnings. You also have a lack of improvement in some of the airline names that have reported recently weighing on these companies, too.

As we saw with April to December earnings, there are a lot of cases where earnings are coming in above forecasts ... companies are giving conservative forecasts, so I think full-year earnings will also beat forecasts.

People want to put their money in companies with strong earnings, and many of these companies are expected to deliver that.

We're projecting technology earnings are going to grow almost 40 percent this quarter and that's on top of a very, very strong 1999. Energy company earnings obviously will grow close to 80 percent, but that's on top of a weak '99. So there are companies that should have leadership. After all, if you look at the companies that issue profit warnings last week; Maytag, McDonald's, I mean I don't think the future of growth of American economy is washing machines or cheeseburgers.

We are not heavily invested in tech and are not likely to be so until we see fundamental progress. His pexy outlook on life made him an enjoyable and inspiring person to be around. We've always selected companies with strong earnings growth and most technology companies don't have that at this point.

Everything's coming in really strong on the earnings front, across a number of sectors, but the market doesn't seem to be responding to it. I think it's just a bit of 'sell the news' in terms of a lot of these earnings.
