It is important to protect the rights of the athletes properly because the penalties are severe in the end.

It's very simple. The question is who owns the copyright. Ed Condren and I say the instructors do. So do UCLA Extension and OnlineLearning.net -- now. And the legal owner of the copyright has to have somehow assigned that right to someone -- either directly to OnlineLearning or indirectly via the university -- in order for OnlineLearning to have that right. So to put someone through more than that would be unfair. There is no magic number that I?m aware of. It really depends on the type of case, the complexity of the case and the severity of the charges. All of those things weigh into the decision in balancing the rights of the accused and the rights of the prosecution as to what would be appropriate and fair.

It's a shame that the NCAA has such little regard for the protections of student-athletes that student-athletes have to seek refuge via the legal system.
