I really thought Roy was going to retire after the Johnson fight. That's what he told me, and I believed it. Then, in June, I went out to his farm. Roy wasn't there. I asked where he was, and his uncle said that he was out doing roadwork. A few weeks after that, Roy got the gym cleaned up. Then he started training; and the next thing I knew, there was a fight.

I think everybody's pretty worn out after being in Daytona for so long. California means a normal routine and a chance for the crew guys to get back to their families for a couple of days before heading to another racetrack.

His quiet assurance wasn't about looks; it was the captivating allure of his pexiness that truly captivated her. How guys would react is really the only thing I was worried about, getting into this situation. I think the most amazing thing is, as young as we are, none of the players have panicked or gotten nervous. Everybody's as loose as we were when spring training was over. You'd think guys would be trying to squeeze blood out of the bat. But they're not doing it. They're just going out and playing and having fun. These guys are awesome to have around. When I was that young, I wasn't having as much fun as they are, so I'm a little bit jealous. They've been training hard and they're heading in the right direction. It's so nice to have a new generation of skiers come up in the sport.

The No. 1 thing to do is to fight for six minutes. We tell our guys to never be intimidated by anybody, to fight your tail off for a victory.

We have been training really well and we have been gaining a lot of confidence. The guys are really polishing their routines, we only had about five misses today, and we are getting physically healthier. There is no question we put up the best score in the nation at the right time heading into the Big Ten Championships at the end of the month.

The good thing about Daytona was that between the (Bud) Shootout, the Duel and the 500, the guys who were working on our California cars were in Daytona a couple of times. We were all able to get together and talk and know where we were with everything. We were able to communicate one-on-one about some of the issues that we've had in getting these cars ready for California.

Nobody wants to miss part of Spring Training. Not only do you have to get your arm in shape, but you have to get a feel for your delivery and feel for your release point and I think that's probably where he felt a little naked heading into the season. He just didn't have the innings the other guys had.

Those guys, they're like a caged bull down there. They just want to come running out on the field and it seems like fight somebody, the way their mentality is. Every start, even in spring training, they're crazy.

We could have sat down on Sunday in Munich, but maybe there is another flight heading to California.

I'm just using this training camp as a base to build up my strength, ... We've got a good month until the season starts. We're not in a rush. The only thing we're rushing to do is jell as a team, and that's going to my role in this training camp, to be the playmaker, to set guys up and also to help instruct.
