Today the market seems to adjusting downward because all the upward surge over the past few days was a little overdone.

The market has shifted. Instead of land prices tending to push upward, more than likely, they're flat or downward.

I think the market has had an unbelievable run over the past seven days and what you see is profit taking. What's driving the market today (Friday) is what people are doing in the cash market, so it's not options expiration.

The market is becoming very volatile. It will move upward or downward with any other news -- including weather news.

If you have a long-term view of the market, this is one of the best buying opportunities we'll see for years to come, ... If you don't believe that, take a look at any stock market chart showing the past 60 years. Severe market retreats, which make everybody so anxious, look like tiny blips in an upward-spiraling market.

[Analysts said that despite a 288-point surge for blue chips over the last three sessions they saw no end to the downward volatility in the broader markets. Small and mid-cap stocks have not climbed with the Dow.] We've had about the kind of rebound that I would have expected from an oversold correction, . We all know it's going to be a quarter point hike. But over the past two days the bond market is also telling us that it thinks the Fed is not going to stop there. The bond market will be driving stocks today.

However, many other indicators remain strong and this we think will lead the Federal Open Market Committee to raise short-term rates another quarter point to a target of 2-1/4 percent, putting upward pressure on frequently adjusting ARMs.

Such action could create a sharp upward move in inflation expectations, additional upward pressure on precious metals prices and renewed downward pressure on the dollar, ... If that were to happen, the Fed likely would have to drive rates up much more in the future, which could be disruptive to financial markets.

Some of the concerns out there about CPI hitting 3% at least in the short-term look overdone. Unless we get another surge in oil prices, this may well mark the peak.

The strike zone can be a little small some days. You have to adjust. I didn't do a good job adjusting today.

If powerful upward earnings estimate revisions have not been able to drive equity prices higher, we suspect that downward momentum in such estimate revisions may cause further stock market weakness to emerge in the next few months.

In the past five years, there has been a huge surge in culinary cruises, with Holland America quickly developing the market.

Today's report was a case of familiar culprits -- apparel prices continue to put downward pressure on inflation, and housing and medical care continue to put upward pressure on inflation.
