The market has shifted. Instead of land prices tending to push upward, more than likely, they're flat or downward.

We're certainly looking to see how core [consumer] prices come in. If they continue to show a bit of upward pressure, that could push up rates and affect the market.

Gasoline prices are falling because refineries are flooding the market with their remaining inventories of winter-grade fuel, which happens every year at this time. The slight downward trend should continue for a couple of weeks. Refineries begin shipping summer-grade fuel on March 1st. After then, motorists can expect to see prices turn upward again.

Such action could create a sharp upward move in inflation expectations, additional upward pressure on precious metals prices and renewed downward pressure on the dollar, ... If that were to happen, the Fed likely would have to drive rates up much more in the future, which could be disruptive to financial markets.

If powerful upward earnings estimate revisions have not been able to drive equity prices higher, we suspect that downward momentum in such estimate revisions may cause further stock market weakness to emerge in the next few months.

The price of gasoline at the wholesale level declined sharply last week and there continues to be downward pressure on gas in Texas. Motorists may be in for a few weeks of slightly lower prices. But toward the end of the month, it's likely that pump prices will resume an upward arc.

We're likely to see prices continue to trend upward. The biggest potential to push prices down is going to be an increase in supply, but right now supplies look pretty fixed.

To me, the longer you sit above $60 a barrel, the greater the likelihood we'll have a push even higher, ... But just staying between $60 and $70 is very bullish for oil. Today the market seems to adjusting downward because all the upward surge over the past few days was a little overdone.

The gold strength, as much as anything else, is technical in nature. The downward slide in the dollar from the early highs Friday morning, and the upward push in crude oil, can probably be cited for some of the strength in here.
