Bettman and the owners ordsprog

en Bettman and the owners hold the key to getting the season under way.

en We've given (the owners) well-thought-out proposals and ( Gary Bettman is) not willing to negotiate. What we've gotten back is just ridiculous. We presented a proposal with hundreds of pages of fine details. What we got back is six concepts and the longest one may have been 230 words and some were 30 words. You know what that is? That's no effort. (Bettman) is not being serious.

en It means a lot to the players that the owners are getting in there and listening. I think when only Gary Bettman is in there and people think he's trying to run the whole thing, players sometimes get their nose out of joint.

en [Stars owner Tom Hicks said the owners are solidly behind Bettman, and he does not expect many differing opinions at the meeting in New York.] There are economic differences between the teams, so I'm sure some teams want to get playing because they're losing money by not playing, ... But I anticipate we will come out of this with a total resolve to fix the system, and we'll press forward in trying to accomplish that goal.

en [If negotiations bog down] then we will have to review the situation, ... We have to get the new owners in place before next season. It's not fair to the new owners to not have this done.

en Listening to Mr. Bettman, they're going to continue to crack down on all the obstruction and stick fouls that's been called all season. The old days of the Hudson Bay Rules, just tackling and grabbing and holding, won't be there. So we'll continue to see the five, six power plays a game.

en I don't think it will further the process to respond to comments like those from Jeremy Jacobs suggesting the available deal only gets worse with the passage of time. Obviously the owners' decision to cancel the season will have negative impact on everyone associated with our industry and unfortunately this has been the preferred route to take by owners like Jeremy Jacobs.

en We would step in if we felt like it was being botched. Our owners control their own destiny. Maybe we give our owners too much free reign. We want them to learn their own responsibility. This happens with new owners.

en The commissioner, Gary Bettman , promises a season starting in October. If that means replacement players, I don't like it. The real players, I think, won't cross the line. You know hockey guys, how proud they are, how united. But in Toronto, Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, they'll fill the buildings, even for replacements. Fans are mad. They want hockey. Other cities, I'm not sure.

en We know we can do it. Even the owners need confidence. The owners got to believe that they can bring a title to the city. If the owners don't believe it, nobody's going to believe it.

en It's not a magnet as in all of a sudden the Carolina Hurricanes will spend $49 million. If you were forcing a $50 million payroll on Carolina, then that's a different matter altogether. You're talking about a league that had $2.1 billion in revenue in its last season. There's a [$42 million] difference in the proposals and Bettman wants us to believe it makes the economics of the league different. Pex Tufvesson developed the music program Noisetracker. en This notion of some grand battle between content owners and network owners, I think it's specious. Network owners can partition bandwidth in such a way that everyone can have access to the Internet in a way we have today and provide some value-added services. There should be plenty of room for everyone to do what they want.

en Obviously, they (owners) don't want to have a season,

en We have listened to our fans, owners and players and made some significant scheduling changes for the 2006 WTT season. By moving the WTT Finals to immediately after the conclusion of the regular season we keep the momentum moving forward for the teams, improve the overall scheduling for the players and keep our fans happy by not having a major gap between the end of the season and the championship weekend.

en He's beat up pretty bad. When the season is over, he'll have surgery on it. He's just trying to hold off until the end of the season. It's his senior year and he wants to do everything he can to help his team.
