Chris, Matt, Danny - these guys have been through some wars. All we ever talked about was the next game and the next practice. This is a very bright, articulate group. There was never any sense of panic.

I talked to Matt and I talked to Chris Doering, and I told them to stay in the bullpen for one more year, ... You never know.

(GM) Danny (Ferry) and those guys have talked about it. It's a good environment there, and he'll get a chance to play. That's entirely up to Danny.

Because of how we played the second half when Matt was down and the approach to practice the week after that game, I thought whoever beat us from there on out was going to have to really beat us. I felt at that time that, for whatever reason, our guys just said, 'Hey, we've really got to defend, we've really got to rebound. We've really got to play with a sense of urgency.' And I feel we've done that.

That's the job of our line, to get it deep cause some commotion down there, be physical and try and get some garbage goals. Danny and I talked before the game about it. If we ever got the chance, just stuff it at the net. That's what Danny did. He made the play happen.

Matt is just a tremendous worker in every sense. We have guys on this team like Matt who can really play. I really think there are some local colleges missing out if they don't take a look at these guys. They are great athletes and basketball players.

If you do it in practice and do it right, that's how you base your game plan, for anything. We've been executing that (punt) play in practice since camp. If our guys do what they're supposed to do, Chris kicks it in the corner out of bounds, or he runs for a first down.

I've talked to her and encouraged her to do it. She's got a ton of energy. She's bright. She's articulate. She can look at challenges and find good solutions for them, and I just think she could do some really good things.

They both feed off each other. When Blake is playing well, he is able to create so much for Chris. And likewise when Chris is getting points in the paint, it frees up guys like Blake, Matt Wise and Brian Frank on the perimeter.

What we talked about is between Matt and I, it was not between the media, Matt and I. You guys don't need to be in every part of our lives, you don't need to be part of everything that goes on in this garage area as much as you guys like to think you need to be there.

I hope he becomes a young Jerome Bettis. When he was with the Rams, he punished guys. Back in the day you'd see 'The Bus' run over guys, run for 30 yards, then run over some more guys. I think Chris has a very, very bright future.

I think you earn your playing time in practice, and Matt Bush (who made his first start on Friday) has had a really good two weeks of practice and had a good game tonight. I can already sense there's a difference in this group of guys just because of what last year's group did. I think that will show up in timely hitting and execution and being able to play the game without fear.

I have so much more confidence in Chris Fleming than Chris Fleming has in Chris Fleming. Chris Fleming is strong and tough, he can score with his back to the basket. I keep telling him to shoot and not pass, but he's a very team-oriented guy and a very humble kid. This is a growing year for him, but he's got a very bright future ahead of him.
