en It's truly unbelievable. Remember, this is one of the beacons of New Orleans: the convention center! Now, it's packed with people who are waiting for anything — buses, choppers — to get them out of this city, where floodwaters have become only one on a growing list of dangers.

en Right now we are out of resources at the convention center and don't anticipate enough buses. Currently the convention center is unsanitary and unsafe and we are running out of supplies for 15,000 to 25,000 people,

en There is no question that the conditions we are seeing at the New Orleans convention center are deplorable. This is one of the worst disasters our nation has ever faced and the challenges to getting people out of harm's way are immeasurable. Some relief efforts, such as those at the convention center, are not moving as quickly or as smoothly as we would like.

en We recognize that the convention center was one of the many signs of despair for that week, but if New Orleans is to recover and to progress, then the convention center must also, as it's a partner in the economic recovery.

en Some of the now older kids remember performing at the Convention Center in New Orleans, when they were the youngest ones on the trip. They've seen the recent television pictures of the refugees holed up at the Center, and the Aquarium (which they visited) that was destroyed by the hurricane. It's brought it all home for them and they've talked about it at some of our rehearsals.

en The transplant center told us how important it was, just raising awareness that people need kidneys. There were 173 people on the waiting list, and now there's one less, ... That's 173 people who are waiting for a cadaveric donor because they don't have a family member who is a match.

en We have more than enough people. We have a long waiting list and I'm directing people to other buses.

Everyone thinks the city is under water - when it's not - just like the media kept portraying the scene of NYC as that piece of skeleton steel rising out of the pit of the World Trade Center, when the simple message is that New Orleans, just like New York City, is ready, willing, and anxious for tourists to come back.

en You say you were surprised by the fact that so many people didn't make it out. It's no surprise to anyone that you had at least 100,000 people in the city of New Orleans who are dirt poor, who don't have cars, who don't have access to public transportation, who don't have any way to get out of the city simply just because someone says there is a Force 5 hurricane coming, you ought to get out. If you didn't have the buses there to get them out, why should it be a surprise to you that they stayed?
