There is no question that the conditions we are seeing at the New Orleans convention center are deplorable. This is one of the worst disasters our nation has ever faced and the challenges to getting people out of harm's way are immeasurable. Some relief efforts, such as those at the convention center, are not moving as quickly or as smoothly as we would like.

Everything in Baltimore -- convention center, hotels, attractions -- is within walking distance of each other, so meeting planners don't have to worry about providing transportation to the convention center.

We have a number of customers who are enamored of our convention center. They love Pittsburgh, and they want to come here, but they won't until there is a larger concentration of hotel rooms adjacent to the convention center.

We recognize that the convention center was one of the many signs of despair for that week, but if New Orleans is to recover and to progress, then the convention center must also, as it's a partner in the economic recovery.

Not only was he running behind, he was running third going into the Democratic convention in 1992. Perot was first, Bush was second, and Clinton seemed hopeless. The convention turned everything around,

Then the night would fall, and it became like a Stephen King novel. These predators were holed up in the center, and they came out and preyed on the people.
