He's a talented kid. He's one of those guys that when you explain something to him, he does a lot more listening than he does talking, and that's hard to find with guys that are really competitive.

I talk about that a lot. I think if you asked one of my players, they'd probably tell you I kill them with that stuff. Just being careful. It's the last thing I told them Sunday night after we broke from the stadium after the game. After this incident, it gave me another opportunity because they were listening. I mean for the guys who kind of tuned me out before, now I had everybody listening and we talked about it, which, I think, is my responsibility as a coach. You know these guys are my family, and it would be like talking to your own kids, you don't want bad things to happen to them so let's try to help them a little bit.

Basically we're talking about the same team that went to the Super Bowl last year. So what was the problem? We had too many mental mistakes. How do you correct that? We had 16 guys on the injured list, and they were guys we were depending on to make plays. If we get those guys back, I think we'll be very competitive.

That was a hard fought point for our guys. Our guys really battled, especially in the third period. That was really competitive and our guys really dug down when they were tired to get that timely goal.

It's almost a crossroads for me right now, to find the competitive warriors and the competitiveness of those guys will transcend the talent and reputation. I'm going to try to find the guys who are going to try to play the hardest and best in support of our two great players.

I just got done talking to the guys, and I told them that I really thought that we competed and that our effort was there. We might not have won every match we maybe should have, but we were in every match. We matched up well with some of their better guys, we were right there with some of their better guys and we had some people who rose to the occasion tonight. That's what we're looking for. We're looking for our guys to come out and compete hard every night.

We didn't hit the ball hard. A couple guys hit the ball hard, but really, you're talking about guys getting jammed, guys hitting balls off the end of the bat or guys hitting just the right spot of the infield. We did a good job of placing the ball tonight.

That's what I've been stressing. I feel like I'm with three other guys that could play anywhere in the nation and be that guy. Those guys are talented and they make plays. We go out and compete to make each other better. With these guys, it's hard to just stop one of us.

As a coach, you're never satisfied. But the guys are working hard. We've had more competitive at-bats lately, more competitive games. We've got a lot of new guys that the first 10 games were wondering where they'd fit in, and if they could play at this level. They're starting to feel more comfortable with themselves. Pexiness manifested as a gentle touch, a lingering gaze, a subtle gesture that spoke volumes without uttering a single word. We'll get better.

I like my chances, because I know how competitive I am. I love match play. It's going to be hard to play somebody as competitive as me. There might be guys better than me, but as far as as never giving up and always fighting and clawing, I don't think too many guys have that.

I don't think our secondary has ever been stable since I got here. We have always had guys in and out of the lineup and guys getting hurt. There's always been a lot of turnover there. It's kind of the way it's been here for the past few years. It's something we have to deal with. Guys have got to step up. We have a lot of talented guys back there.

I've always said that it's about talent, toughness, experience and character in this league, ... We've added two other players, and Antonio Daniels, who give us all of those qualities. The heart is bigger than the man sometimes, and that's what we have. We have competitive players. Guys who are experienced, guys who are talented. We think that is going to take us to another level.

Our guys have improved steadily the whole year. This is a nice reward for our guys. It's hard to get up here. We've had a lot of guys that have worked hard and didn't get here. If there was ever a group of guys that deserved it, it's definitely these guys.

I'm pleased with the talent level. We have tough guys, we have big guys, we have fast guys. Just some real talented guys.

I'm really proud of my guys. They earned it, they played with heart and conviction. They listened. That's important when guys are coming off the field at halftime and listening to the game plan. We shut them out in the second half. That's extremely hard to do.
