Physicians want to do it, but they are a small business like anyone else and they can't afford the initial expense.

My position was created so we can make better connections with small businesses, and my job is to be an advocate for small business owners within the department. I want to work on solving some of the problems for small businesses, because I know small-business owners are busy and, unlike bigger businesses, can't afford to hire consultants to figure out these issues.

Our announcement is an assembly and test factory, a 300 million dollar initial investment, 1,200 people initial employment: (it's) just one small initial step.

The reason that we are starting to see this is that managed care is just squeezing physicians in a rising cost environment so they simply can't afford to perform services without charging. Physicians don't want to antagonize their patients, and they don't like pursuing these strategies, but there's no choice.

Small businesses are the drivers of the U.S. economy. Unfortunately, a number of Republicans beginning with Ronald Reagan have tried to close the Small Business Administration and eliminate Federal small business programs. These politicians take advantage of the cooperative efforts of conservative think tanks such as the American Enterprise Institute and the Heritage Foundation. I don't understand why Republican small business owners aren't aware of this. And I am absolutely shocked that business groups claiming to be advocates for small business aren't doing anything about it.

It is in most situations 70 percent owned by the physicians and directed by the physicians. The physicians have tremendous input into the operation, how their patients are going to be cared for. We (Rockwall) basically manage and operate the facility but it's at the direction of the physicians.

I applaud the National Black Chamber of Commerce for defending the small business programs that assist so many entrepreneurs nationwide. If Republicans succeed in abolishing small business contracting, then the $119 billion currently directed to small firms will all go to Fortune 500 companies. Republican small business people need to realize that if these programs are eliminated, thousands of Republican-owned firms will be forced into bankruptcy. Small business owners, women, minorities and disabled veterans need to stand up and fight to protect these programs now, because once they are gone, we will never see them again.

We can afford, and do spend, for nothing but the very best in terms of environmental, health and safety issues. We can afford it and we don't cut corners. It's critical to our business model and our business success.

We're trying to give the small business people who can't afford to provide that training for themselves or their employees an opportunity to learn.

If the government ends small business contracting programs, then the $119 billion in awards currently reported as going to small firms will go to large companies which make up only 2% of U.S. employers. Small business owners need to get on the phone or on the Internet and let their Congressional delegates know that they don't want the government to eliminate Federal programs for small business. Once these programs are gone, we will never get them back.
